New player with a few questions to the more experienced crowd.
Well, I just took my first step into WAR today.
Trial version for now, for obvious reasons.
Created my high elf shadow warrior and set out.
But even before entering the game world and throughout my short visit therein, I encountered a number of subtle but annoying aspects to the game...
Windowed mode is not windowed mode, but rather a non-full-screen full-screen mode of some perverse variety, the text input field is stuck behind other interface items (1280x1024 resolution) and so on.
So while I must say I enjoy the overall atmosphere and gameplay so far, I have two questions, one rhetorical and one that I'm curious to get an answer to from the more experienced players:
#1 (Rhetorical) It's been a year since release, yet the game's developers haven't managed to make the interface flawless...why?
#2 These notes regarding such subtle problems might seem like I'm bickering, but regardless of that, I'd like to know, just how much imperfection and problems -- no matter how large or small -- that are easily visible even to a new player who just logged in for the first time should I expect from the game further on as I advance in ranks and such? In other words, what's the state of game development and support in WAR?
If the interface bothers you enough to earn the effort of a post then I can tell you right now your going to find a WHOLE lot more that you don't like.
The game is riddled with bugs, plain and simple. I would have to say they have some pretty incompetent coders over there since every patch they introduce to fix bugs introduces a bunch more. So yeah, if bugs bother you then you will not enjoy your stay in WaR.
I for one have a blast playing it and the bugs don't really bother me. I find many of them amusing.

Unfortunatly Bansaw is very correct about the state of the game with respect to the latest patch that was recently launched into live server play.
I believe that Mythic is truely working hard to correct the outstanding issues but bugs, lag and crashes are unfortunatly a bigger part of the play experiance then some would like.
With all that being said I must say that I also fall into the catagory of enjoying the game despite all the other annoying things that have cropped up if that helps you at all.

I concur with the two posts above me. It's riddled with bugs still and every patch brings more out of the woodwork. The CTD problem alone is mind-boggling to me. I can't understand how they can have that many CTD problems this far along.
To give you an example: If I play for 3 hours or so, I can expect to crash to desktop between 2-4 times. I can't understand why it occurs so frequently on a game that's been out for over a year now but it does. And many people crash much more frequently.
That being said, the game is fun. I see bugs and crashes, and my controls are still laggy during intense RvR, but it's fun enough that I keep logging on. The server merges were a godsend, as it's now really easy to find a big fight going on no matter what time of day.
Yeah, the CTD's are annoying. But I only got them about once every week or two before the last patch so I'm confident they will located the bad code from the last patch and correct it.
My hard drive died and I'm waiting on a replacement so hopefully by the time I get everything back up and running they will have found that problem.

I said this as an early beta player i beta forums and got flack from Jacobs and the team who said it would stand. Punk Buster has no ****ing place in a MMO. The program does not work in FPS games and causes many issues and I am still convinced that half their server issues are due to using this piece of malware garbage.

I guess it comes down to what "bugs" you and what doesn't, right?
Every game has some degree of bugs after a year, or two, or five. Some more, some less. A game could have relatively few bugs, and I am not saying WAR falls into this category, but if it happens to be something that really gets under your skin then you will find the game intolerable.
So far my experience has been that nothing is so wrong with the game to get in the way of me having fun.
I think the main thing that holds back WAR is what makes it so fun, RvR. I really think people have a hard time with it. Even after a year I notice people making the same mistakes over and over more than I notice the occassional bug.
Still this game has given me some incredible moments. Not birth of a child moments, but entertainment moments rivalling the feeling you get when you watch a great movie. Try defending the last keep your side holds on a tier for 2 hours and you will know what I mean.
But as the other said, if you find something that really bothers you be prepared to live with it. If you can't then you will probably not enjoy this game.

I still like WAR and would still be playing it if I had not gone through that financial ambush.
There will always be parts of WAR I don't like because some of their early design decisions don't match my personal preferences. However, I have yet to find any game that captures the feel of Greenskins as well as WAR does.
If I can ever afford to get back into mumorpugers then WAR will be the first place I go.
Having just started playing again after a long absence, I'm actually a little shocked just how little progress they;ve made with the game.
That being said, despite the bugs it is still fun. I personally think that they should merge the servers a little bit more to keep the pops up, but other than that I love it when a warband gets going.
