Sins of a Solar Spymaster #18: Defending Allah’s Sacred Domains
Even while the most recent war in EVE Online was nearing its conclusion, many of New Eden’s inhabitants remained relatively unaffected by the events playing out in 0.0 space. All of that is about to change though according to the most recent edition of Sins of a Solar Spymaster, in which The Mittani discusses the tactics involved in declaring war on Empire space:
Quote:
Yet, while the Great War captured the imagination of both the players and the media, only a small proportion of the playerbase directly participated in it. One might bandy about rough figures of twenty to thirty thousand participants on either side of the war, yet EVE has 300,000 subscribers. The vast bulk of those pilots live in protected Empire territories, patrolled by unkillable NPC 'police' and insulated from the violence of 0.0. Bring up the map with 'pilots in space' during Euro Prime, and it seems clear that 80% or more of the population blunders through EVE in Empire, intolerably free of the threat of violence.
Had a goon attempt to gank my Hulk in his armageddon a couple of days ago, I was afk at the time and just trying to get some minerals together.
The attempt failed, and I got some nice salvage loot from the attacker, it made my day, I'd purposely setup in empire because I wanted a day away from 0.0 pvp.
So how did I do it? Well I didn't read the miner's guide that talks about permarunning deadspace shield boosters, that doesn't help against alpha. Instead I set up for higher resists and concentrated on boosting my ship's effective hit points, if you can give up one of your low slots a Damage Control II will make a huge difference. I also have a high sec status so Concord arrived a whole lot sooner.
In a similar note, I was recently in a wardec situation, and with hours to go the red corp was camping a popular station with a load of stealth bombers and swarming around ships that were soon to be legal targets.
It made them easy targets for a fully insured armageddon with a full rack of smartbombs.....
(No I'm not telling you my character's name because that'll just encourage someone to do it right next time).
Well, have fun guys. If it starts to impact CCP's bottom line, then they will beef up Concords response time, and take other actions. Its those other actions that may have you Goonies QQ'ing again... ^^

That would work if EVE hadn't been started by bored UO griefers.
Wasn't there an alternative economic reason for targeting Hulks specifically. I seem to remember reading a goon post during the initial "Jihad Swarm" about a goon industrialist who was having a hard time moving Hulks in the market, lamenting how no one empire ever @%#^ing loses one so it was hurting his bottom line... So he turned ganking Hulks into a game, offered a reward for the goon who could gank the most over a week or something like that.
