Final Fantasy XI Square Enix Sued for "Unfair Business Practice"

Square Enix is in the middle of a new class action lawsuit involving its MMORPG, Final Fantasy XI. The plaintiff in the case is alleging that Square Enix engaged in unfair business practice. The plaintiff, Esther Leong of San Francisco, claims that Square Enix lied about or concealed its monthly fees, penalties for late payments, interest, restrictions, and other things that Leong says should have been fully disclosed.

Two points..

1. A similiar case was won against SE in Illinois (sp?), with the winning point being based on the late charges, not anything else listed.

2. This is probably a large reason why SE are not using Play Online for FFXIV.

It wouldn't surprise me if Play Online is actually a seperate company, but I've never cared enough to investigate it.

Wonder what happened to people's ability to read the end user agreement when installing a game that they are knowingly paying for. Seems to me that the monthly fee would be pretty hard to conceal with so many users all paying for the entertainment value of FFXI. Who's next, Blizzard they have paying customers doing exactly the same thing as that of Square Enix.

I have my FFXI box next to me and there is nothing misleading on the box or on the Play Online site....unless you choose to not read any of it.

Eh, just another idiot trying to get rich quick with yet another pointless attempt at suing someone. This economy trouble is making people crazy and doing dumber schtuff than normal!

More than likely the only bit of money this person will see are the fees returned that were charged, and end up having this huge court bill 100x worse that could have been avoided!
