The second Aion closed beta event just concluded, and I'll add my impressions to the fray. In short, I was expecting a humdrum, culturally discordant port with a few nifty features like flight and instead discovered a whole new play experience born of small but significant tweaks and an art style that wasn't as grating as I'd feared.
I'll dodge all the usual caricatures of Aion (really - flight is fun and cool, but isn't it just swimming upside down?) and deliver my opinions from the second Aion CBT event in Loading... Aion Beta Event Impressions.

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect with Aion either, but have to admit that much like the end of the first event, I'm already thinking ahead to what I want to do when the servers are opened up again. It's also nice to see that I wasn't the only person who kept getting flashes of Soul Calibur while playing.
The insta-vendor thing definitely needs to be reworked though. I wouldn't mind it so much if there were at least some kind of rules as to where players could set up shop. For example, in the back of a dark cave or the bottom of a deep well would work out exceptionally well I think.
What if they gave you an option in the option menu to turn off the text over the vendor players heads? This way it doesn't clutter up the screen.
That might be a easy addition they can make without having to rework the maps to allow for vendor player only spots.
I myself enjoyed AION. I was expecting a L2 but with slightly better graphics. But to my amazement the game turned out to be alot more then just a nicer L2. There was no point where I had to grind mobs to level up. The quests for the Asmo's was really nicely put togeather and the main quest line did a great job of getting you interested in just what happened in your characters past..
I hope they continue to expand upon that as you level up. Learn more about how your character was defeated and ended up on the land. How your character became a Lord and commander of a brigade. There's alot of room there to expand and build upon and I can't wait to see how it plays out.
Ethec you made a mistake. The player shops are not the Aion-answer to the auction house. The game has auction houses as well in Sanctum and Pandemonium. As a result, even on chinese Aion, I saw only a couple three or four afk-shops scattered throughout the game.

I don't see anything wrong with player shops. I think most MMOs should allow them and to be setup anywhere!
Instead of accidentally forgetting something in town after having already arrived at your plans for that hr or so. There could be a player selling wares useful for said area nearby, although it'll more than likely be a bit higher priced than at town or the AH, but it saves a ton of downtime running back!
I don't mind the player shops either. They come in kinda handy when people set them up at outposts that are a little out of the way. I H-A-T-E getting into a questing groove then deciding I need something and traveling allll the wayyyy back to a town.
This was my first beta weekend. Consider me won over!
yea it is a great game and i will confirm that there is AH's in the game you have to get off noob lands to get to it but you really wont need it till then anyways but you have to be around lvl 20 for that. game is very fluid and runs great i played china OB and loved it no lagg at all and was on other side of the world. i know the game isnt doing well at all in china. but you have to buy time to play you pay per hour not a monthly fee. like here in usa.

Good grief their still in the days of BBS and MUD's? I remember a very long time ago in ancient galaxy far, far away.... It was expensive as hell to play MUD's on a Bulletin Board System (pre-internet www days).

Apparently neither Khal nor Savanja played Lineage 2, and had the five minute load in Giran because of the sea of afk-shops in the courtyard.
Afk-shops are a nuisance because they are plopped everywhere and anywhere. They are an eyesore not-unlike the player housing/cities in swg (or so I hear).

I did actually. It was laggy going through town because of all the shops, but it didn't bother me there either. I do dislike all the pop ups above their heads tho.
