NCSoft has released North America pre-order details for Aion, and at long last an MMO publisher has figured out a way to reward pre-order customers with that most coveted of pre-order bonuses - the ability to play the game months before launch. This and a look at the state of interactive hardware in the MMO industry - are we falling behind mainstream gaming? Could MMO developers do more?

When I read that Aion was including the preview weekends in with the pre-order, I could not get to Gamestop fast enough. I think having limited events, allowing players to experience designated content for specific limited periods of time, is nothing short of brilliant.

First, it allows players to get the pre-release preview that has become so important as a part of marketing the game but it also controls the flow of information so people aren't getting burned out on the game early like we did with Tabula Rasa.

Previews = good
Unlimited access to a not quite complete game = bad
