Over in lovely Los Angeles, the Ten Ton Hammer staff got their first true look at actual gameplay in Star Wars: The Old Republic. During the demonstration, we received looks at the Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, and Sith classes and some of the intriguing abilities that each Star Wars standard brings to the game. There were some very revealing moments, so don't miss this article!

You are there to deliver the result. Do you obey your Sith tendencies and kill him, or let him live to help you in your quest? The choice is yours and impacts the gameplay to follow. In this instance the Captain lived and the ship was boarded by Republic troopers. While the Captain evacuates the ship out of the fight, it is your job to fight off the Republic troops who board the cruiser.
Nice write up. I am interested, however, on your take on the combat. Essentially the essence of the UI, how is the combat twitch? etc. and does the UI look clean as I would imagine?
Thanks

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Interesting. The folks over at IGN decided to kill the disobedient captain. In this case, it looks like you decision had minimal impact because their result was almost identical. I guess the Light side and Dark side points make a bigger impact in subtle ways.
In the case of Jedi / Sith, I can imagine Light / Dark influencing the powers you have access to, but don't really understand how it can apply to others. Maybe it's not that complex, it wasn't really that indepth in the KOTOR games.
Very nice report, however I was turned off at the full PvP! I expected this to have PvP...duh, but I'm hoping it'll be separate zones, battelgrounds, or servers for it, but if not and its full on PvP everywhere with no PvE options I'll be severely dissappointed!

I don't think that's what he meant, and I"m sure there will be planets that are safe from PvP incursion. The full PvP will probably occur on the border worlds, but remember that this is Star *Wars* not Star Run Around the Galaxy on a Quest to Kill the Raid Monster.

In the manner of Mass Effect and KOTOR for that matter (If Bioware goes the same route with SWTOR as they did with that) choosing good or evil influenced how people reacted to you and your options in conversations. Later in the game if you were good, you could choose to try and accomplish certain task in a unique way that sometimes saved lives or maybe earned you some items. The same was true with the evil, but you would go about things a different way and usually instead of saving you might end up blasting someones head off. You would then get a different item. It's little subtle things like that which made Mass Effect a fun and unique game depending on the path you chose. There were other effects being either good or evil had as well. Suffice to say it was interesting depending on your alignment.

I can't stress the above enough, I would be quite a lot more disappointed if it was nothing more then a single player PvE grind with some "MMO components", which is what the title most definitely keept sounding like. IGN also had a pretty decent write up, hopefully we will continue to see more info, and get an official gameplay walkthrough and a few interviews out of E3!
