In today's Loading..., there are forces at work almost beyond our comprehension as every MMO approaches its launch date. I'm not talking about the Force, the Schwartz, serendipity, or the sorts of topics Coyote writes about daily. But no matter your spiritual tastes, you'll probably agree that hype (I like the word "momentum" better) plays a role in how every game is received, for better or worse. And among the biggest hype-busting buzzkills is a launch date delay. Are developers getting too complacent about releasing games as promised? Does it hurt sales and staying power more than they realize?

Blizzard puts out quality games in the end yes. But they have always been known as not giving a shit about release dates and never making them.

There montra has always been it will launch when its done. Being vague and misleading also doesnt count for being close to a so called launch target date.

Au contraire.

I applaud producers who won't release a game before it's time and, when asked, tell the media exactly that.

Blizzard, Bioware and 38 are just a few of the folks who've stood firm to the frustration of fan site representatives.

We've all seen more than enough of the unmitigated damage and disaster from the published lies and broken promises from Sigil, Perpetual, FunCom, SOE and others.

Besides, patience is a virtue. Fansite staffs can learn a great deal from that. Such lessons, in retrospect, may just prevent a repeat of embarrassments such as the parroting of FunCom's hype we read (and many people swallowed) prior to the release of Age of Conan.

All 3 quality studios, does not change the fact of what I said.

Although 38 hasnt produced anything so not sure how they even fit into this. But I am a Big Salvatore fanboy so lol

I have video evidence for at least the Wrath expansion. Jeff Kaplan called November 13th for WotLK at BlizzCon, and November 13th it was.

Granted, B$ has pushed release dates in the past, but it's pretty obvious that Blizz is the gold standard. If they're releasing on time, other devs better release on time too if they want to compete, or at least hold their gob on release dates. Time for everybody to step it up.
