The Ten Ton Hammer guide to fishing in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
What's better than floating around the middle of a lake, fishing with friends, and drinking beer? Doing it from the comfort of your own computer chair, of course! No more will we hear the muffled whimpers of sunburned gamers as they indulge in the gaming goodness of online worlds. The Vanguard: Saga of Heroes development team has created a fishing system that's not only enticingly engaging, but deceptively entertaining as well. Ah, the joys of fishing. Standing on the dock, or relaxing on a boat, watching the waves roll and hoping against hope that today's the day you finally catch "the big one". It may be possible in the real world to have a friend give you some tips and be ready to reel in the Creature from the Black Lagoon with the help of a net, but it's going to take time and reflexes to get a solid catch in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
Wait, wait... hold the phone! Seeing fish in rivers and lakes ruins immersion for other players?! Huh..? What brain-dead developer thought that gem up?
NOT seeing wildlife (and fish are both wild and alive), ruins immersion... unless youre in a space-game or something.
Anyway... fishing in this game seems to add the fun of fishing from Lineage 2, and the awesome random junk salvages from Warcrack.
...and here I sit piddling away in Lotro...

No, seeing 40 "Fish" labels on the water in the distance would. Even while fishing, it sometimes gets to the point of annoying. I would hate to be a player out just hunting along the coast and having to see the word "Fish" everywhere I looked
Part of the fishing game though is casting your line close to where a fish is, and luring them in. If you couldn't see them out there (and the distance you can cast your line is in fact farther than you can actually see the fish in the water), then you wouldn't be able to judge this.
I appologize if I missed this in your article, but I am not sure how much fun fishing is. I get the sence you thought it was an interesting experience, but is it just something you must do to get some free fish, or something you would do to kill time while waiting for a raid to begin, or is it something you would look forward to doing for the fun of it?
I should have stated it better, but if it wasn't fun, trust me - that guide would have been FAR shorter than it was LOL
I was actually late for work one day because I become so engrossed in the fishing. What I thought was 30 minutes had turned into 4 hours. No joke. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but I had a good time and found it very relaxing (once I figured out the how of it).
Aside from doing it to relax, there are a lot of cool things you can get from it. The Silver Masterwork Sigil that I noted in there really is *far* more of a pain in the ass to get while crafting than most people would ever believe. Gaining them is the only way to get the "Rare" tier of recipes for each Tier of crafting gear.
As for the DVD's Kitsunegirl, I actually do have a couple of extra copies lying around (I was after the maps), but it would take longer to patch from that than to get the game, hehe.
The best route to go would be to download the trial (comes in at a little over 2 gigs I think). While you're playing on the Isle, the full game will continue to download in the background. That's probably the least painful way to go about it. Let me know how it goes
The problem with the trial though, is that I have a wood elf diplomat and she has some really nice cards... so I dunno. I suppose I could download it for the trial than switch to my main account...
*ponders*
