Default Can Players Build the Future of City of Heroes?

The world of City of Heroes is extensive but even the most talented developers in the world can only generate content so quickly. Now in testing is a system to allow players to generate their own missions bringing community involvement to a new level. Will this revitalize the game or could it spell disaster? We let you know just inside.

The most obvious benefit you can see is the infusion of content into a game that really needs it. Don’t misunderstand me, I absolutely loved playing the game, but clearing the same warehouse with a slight variation of enemy isn’t going to hold my attention forever. Sure the bank robbery missions were great but beyond a few developer scripted boss fights, it seems problematic to try and support your entire progression through piecemeal questing. The Mission Architect will allow player created missions from all shards to become available and who knows exactly how many that could mean? Mediocre ones could easily run in the thousands and that could entertain the community for months. The really good ones with multiple objectives and complexity found in developer created content will do nothing but improve upon what we already have available.

Mission Selector Screen:
The potential this gives is insane, this is only the test server and there are thousands of missions out there for you to try. Endless custom content is really the name of the game, with each account able to have 3 published missions at any time, the number of potential missions is staggering.


Mission Parameter Screen:
This is really just the tip of the iceberg, the broadest look at what you can make. Each group has its own options, ranging from location, to size, to how they react when low on health (calling back up, running, ect)



Custom Enemy Parameters:
You can make a custom enemy for each enemy rank, each with thier own toughness, power choices, and abilities, allowing for whatever you want.


Custom Enemy Power Selection Screen:
This lets you pick from any power set that is available to players in the entire game, depending on the difficulty you set on the previous screen, determines what power from them sets are available to the enemy. Basic only gives the first few powers, while Extreme will give them everything, including the Tier9 (Alpha powers, nukes, super shields, strongest attacks, self rezzes, ect)

Custom Enemy Costume Creation:
You can make any kind of look you want for custom enemies, you get the full character costume creator at your disposal, so the number of potential combination is limitless, so you can make that villain or hero look like whatever you like, including your own characters.



Final Thoughts:
I think it is going to be a big addition to the game, content that is going to be a constant stream from players will be a big boost. Fighting enemies that are brand new all the time, with powers previously only players had.

The player power choices can make things much more difficult as they will use all of their powers as much as possible, and use them well, and you never know what you will be walking into in a new mission. The days of killing the same boring enemy over and over is gone with mission Architect.
