The MMO Wish List - What Are the Extras Players Really Want?
What do players really crave in their MMOG’s?
In this week's edition of Forever Fantasy, Dalmarus takes a deeper look at the various extras players want in their MMOG's. They may not be make or break additions for a game, but there's no denying they're essential to fleshing a world out. How much can developers get away with leaving out? Why is Dalmarus getting ready to stage a protest over a decade old concept that needs to be brought back? Find out this and more in your weekly dose of Forever Fantasy!

It’s not just the battles above the seas that we all crave though. Even early explorers knew that untold treasures could be found beneath the waves. Whether they were ancient ships full of gold or long forgotten civilizations these discoveries excited the blood and changed the way the world was viewed forever. Ancient explorers aren’t the only ones that had a craving to uncover the secrets of Poseidon’s realm.
i mostly disagree with this list...
if i wanted to play dress up i would play a barbie game.
if i want to build dream houses i would muck around with autoCAD (or a similar app.).
if i wanted to decorate them i would....shoot myself in the head.
mounted combat seems ok, but after playing sacred 2 it STILL just becomes part of the play mode (i pretty much never fight un-mounted anymore).
having played POTBS a bit i can safely say ship combat is a turd, if it was like stunt jets i could see it being fun...but slowly sailing to a potential opponent to sit there and fire cannons back and forth is REALLY boring.
under water worlds totally need to be more frequent but its all part of a bigger issue...
companies need to make games WAY more creatively than they have lately. not only is size, but in content in general. i dont see why hobbits couldnt ride skate boards around and use slingshots. i dont know why most games only have 1 mode of play, but to me a game (to be rock solid anyways) needs variety. racing, shooting, fighting, exploring, building, sneaking, the more modes the better. not like a party game really, but there should be a plethora of thing to do when i dont feel like targeting mobs and pressing 1-2-3-4-1-2-1-5-1-2-6-3-1 or harvesting nodes. yay we can ride animals...can we do stunts and combos while riding them to rack up points and possibly kudos or titles (though i dont know that i would want to be known as "master horse tricker" or anything.)?
making a character and then plopping them in a 3d world with a plot is okay and all, but i think they could go a bit further. cities that get burned to the ground is a good start, but the game worlds are pretty static really, you can always go to town X and sell stuff to npc Z, he never gets sick, no-one ever kills him, and apparently nothing ever comes along and torches the city so all that is there suddenly is a smoldering crater. the beavers in mmo's dont even build dams and cause flooding of farmlands, though i have yet to actually get a "beaver hunt" quest in ANY of them.
hitting level cap also kind of bores me.. kick 1000000 asses and then....what craft to death? wait for more content? help lowbies? make a character i like less than the 1 i spent hundreds of hours on (or i would have capped THAT character first)? play a different game (likely). why cant i hit cap and then get some REALLY EPIC (i dont misuse words like that) quest to ascend my current trappings and then be "reborn" on a hard mode server that only people who have already capped can play on, one that REALLY advances the plot and alters the world in such a way that town X definitely isnt what it used to be.
i could go on and on really, but i dont think alot of things on said list are very important compared to the overall small mindedness of the industry in general. it is like they know what sells so why go all out and take risks.
:note: think of how cool it would be to see hobbits rolling through the shire grinding fences and walls and catching air off little dirt mounds! but no we get chicken mode instead....i know they have to stick to lore and all but they plainly have wood and wheels.
I want an old concept from VG beta that still lingers in the char models and world KoS, to be stamped on and ground under heel, the whole "there isnt any true good or evil" love-ieee hugs thing that was being pitched in the early days,(suspect that over use of over the counter medication could of been the under laying reasons for this concept), hence the huge selection of fluffly darn animals you can play that I swear to god are all on the verge of breaking out in fits of giggling and having a tea party.(looking at Raki real hard on that one).
Now this rant is now going to be tied into the whole sea battle thing, and then cunningly im going to then justify my own real wish and thats to have a Lizard race, which lets be fair would look good with this engine, and off sets all the cuddley wuggerly races. NO titter ye not, i,m serious...Lizard playable race, oceans and dam evil, ok slightly Iksarish(eq race) but see how it all works, Oh come on it does.
Brought to you from the "Iksar Fan Club"
P.S lesser giants to have their bottoms and legs removed and their lower halves changed to squeaky wheels, becuse lets face it that would still be less annoying than the "OMG ive had an accident in my pants" running gait that they have even after their small make over they recieved.
P.S.S Pushing Lizard link hard now, lizard monks are cool, but lizard Ninja,s are just FTW

Reason: forgot to add
*First off all, I want the ability to use a freaking STAFF for some funky martial arts moves :P The Aion Chanter class has some cool moves, but I don't want to play a game just for that, so meh
*Free customization of abilities and spells, much like the Darkfall system where you level up the abilities through actually using them, although spamming or macroing them just to level up faster is lame as hell. I suppose there'll always be ambitious players in an MMO though
*Environment based magic. The effectiveness of spells would depend on the concentration of the required elements in a certain area. For example, if you have a "water" type spell, it would probably not even happen in a rocky or desert area, while at sea it would be very effective.
*Having different factions is good. But I want a player to be able to become an "outcast" to his own faction, and after some hard work being able to actually become a member of the opposing faction. This would take the concept of being "unique" to a whole new level.
In games where you can only align yourself with one faction per server, this could be solved by locking down your "alts" of your starting faction, to prevent spying
that's what i can think of right now. I've spent the last few years thinking of what i want from an mmo, so there's probably more

Why all the hate on house decoration? I enjoy decorating my house in RL so it seems logical that I would enjoy that sort of thing in game as well.
Do you not brush your hair or pick out things to wear that match? Customizing your character to look good is not similar to playing Barbie as you say. It is just about not looking the same as everyone else. You have not thought these things through all the way.
Judging from the rest of your post, and other posts you have made on these forums, you just don't like MMO's at all. Why not find a hobby more to your liking?
