Exclusive WAR Call to Arms Interview - The Slayer, Choppa, and Land of the Dead

For massively multiplayer online gamers, nothing is more thrilling than the addition of new classes. Not only do they often provide a completely new experience for player, they also give new players in the game a fresh set of faces to experience the game with.

Back before the launch of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, the developers at Mythic Entertainment opted to pull out four of their original starting classes, stating that they just weren't ready to see the light of release. Since that time the developers have released two of the classes during a "Heavy Metal" event, and now they've announced the final two classes to make their way into the original game: the Dwarf Slayer and the Orc Choppa.

To pave the way for their upcoming content, Mythic Entertainment's Jeff Hickman sat down with Cody "Micajah" Bye to get the exclusive scoop on the Slayer, the Choppa, and the upcoming RvR dungeon "The Land of the Dead." Ten Ton Hammer: Are these two going to be the highest melee DPS classes in the game? Where do they fit in with other melee DPS classes?

Hickman: I hesitate to answer the question because I don't have good numbers in front of me, but I can tell you what the goal is. The goal is that these guys put out a lot of damage. Are they going to be the highest melee damagers? They're going to be close.

When you compare them to the Witchhunter and the Witch Elf and the Marauder and the White Lion. they're all going to be similar in the damage they put out. It really depends on the situation you're in and which class fits best.

I would have liked to have asked if they are ever going to put a sit function in the game... and when we can plan on seeing the other capitals. I think thats one of the killers of the game right there. Its just Chaos and Order cities, no elf, dwarf, orc and DE cities... unless somethings changed, and I didnt notice it yet.

I love the way they talk about arguing with GW about lore when GW breaks all the early lore all the time. That's the main reason I've stopped the whole tabletop thing, everything is different from when I started about 12 years ago, all the imagery has changed really. Not that I'm saying thats a bad thing, some things have changed for the better but most things have a big $$$$ painted all over it.

And you are allowed to be Black Guard. These are the guys who sit in the witch king's tower and protect HIM and any assets he orders them to protect. They are all barracked in his tower. In the game world this is represented by a 0-1 unit restriction meaning no matter how big your army is you're only allowed one of them. Yet any dozy sod can choose to be one lol.

Well so can any "sod" have a unit of them in his army. So if they are "protecting Malekith in the tower" all the time, how come they are in the battlefield in TT. Clearly as you can have a unit of them Malekith uses them as shocktroops.

Also, none of the playable careers are your basic soldier. Everyone plays a "champion".

Its true that GW breaks its lore sometimes, on the other hand most of the fluff that is written is usual made by some "in-game author", so you could argue that they are all just different views of situations. The lore is also made for a game and I believe a game comes first. There are "lore-breaking" even in bestseller fantasy books that people are not bothered with..

I agree that at some point you "break" the lore. Putting Slayer in heavy armor for example. OTOH I also believe that anything can be spun with a good story. If you can reason why it happens in a believable way, its good for me.

Examples of authors breaking their own lore please. George Lucas doesnt count as he is only an author by technicality.
