Fantasy Forever: Capturing the Feel of Flight in Aion
Aion: Giving you the power of flight since 2009!
Gamers around the world may be sore from the loss of NCsoft's ill-fated hype machine, Tabula Rasa, but the company is at it again and Dalmarus thinks they may pull it off with Aion: The Tower of Eternity. Take to the skies and experience a whole new aspect of combat in the gorgeous world of Aion.

Whether you choose to join the side of light as one of the angelic Elyos, or the side of darkness as one of the imposing Asmodians, you'll take to the skies and all of its violent beauty as you fight in the Abyss. The world has been shattered into innumerable shards and it’s up to you to protect your factions floating chunks of rock, the rocks you call home.
Considering it has been breaking records that WoW set in South Korea, I see no reason why it can't at least compete here. Its not like NCSoft are a small inexperienced company.
The game will do amazingly well amongst the Lineage 2, Final Fantasy 11 etc... crowds.
However the one thing that amazes me about this game is if you crack open the REAL content of the game it's extremely lacking and outdated.
It functions like most other Asian MMORPG's and the combat it allegedly slow and "grindy" so to speak.
While this one does add more of a western element than some others the fact that the game's main feature is "You Can Fly" is kind of disturbing. Since that's pretty much a "meh" gimmick from the start.
The game looks beautiful, I just haven't really seen anything about it so far that has dropped my jaw.
I have a friend who adores the grind-fest asian type MMORPGs and he's dying for this to come out. Especially since it's a slow combat MMO.

Based on the NCsofts recent record I think most will take the wait and see approach as no one wants to put time and money into a game that if not deemed a huge success gets the doors shut on the games and the players.
Maybe if they made it a free to play game it could succeed.

Just curious, have you played the game at all? Not attacking your or anything... just wondering. You seem to be "fail-stamping and filing" it before the game has even been put to beta in the US...
Have you been to Aionsource.com yet?

i am thinking things are stacked against this game. i dont know why but it has 0 appeal to me personally, which is kind of weird since i usually atleast have some intrest in a new game. maybe it's partially because i feel TR sucked because they put so much into Aion, or maybe its the fact that so many of the people who cant seem to wait to play it are the types of people i dont want to play with, or it could be that as stated above when you tear the game apart it is just another asian mmorpg.
I like the lore behind the game so far and am pretty anxious to give it a try. I can understand people feeling burned about TR, no doubt about it. Fortunately, I was planning on just doing the first 30 day after release thing with it anyway unless it rellay grabbed me, so no harm done. I do feel sorry for those that loved the game though

Uhm...slow combat? First of all, define this new term for me. I think of "slow combat" as something like Atlantica, you know, turn-based. It's NOT turn-based combat, so uhm....what is "slow combat?"
Also, I've watched every video on YouTube, I think, and all of the ones on the AION website, and it doesn't APPEAR to be a "grind-fest," it appears to be quest and PvP driven. O.o Just wanted to know if you could further elaborate on those views?
Do you consider games like WoW, EQ2, and LotRO to be grind-fests? Because I'm thinking, to me, it seems a bit like those games (in UI and gameplay, just on SOME level), entirely different on another level, but it seems nothing like a game that I DO think is a "grind-fest," MapleStory...LOL.

I can't speak for Barbarious, but go try the free trial of Final Fantasy XI. THAT is slow combat even though it is not turn-based.
