Richard told the BBC that he is looking forward to jumping back "into the fray" to make a high fantasy online game. Would you jump in line to be an investor in a game that he wanted to design?
After years of shenanigans peaking with the complete waste and utter betrayal of investors' best interests called "Project Immorality" or whatever it was, I believe Richard has used any chips he had left from his previous successes. Heck, do you know why he is so famous? Go ahead, name that game. Ok, i'm being silly, but seriously, would you send this guy $10-50 million to develop another game?
You couldn't pay me to play another game made by this con artist. Honestly, I think the only goal he had with Tabula Rasa was to fund his trip into space, squandering any good will he may have previously had from gamers. If he was a honest man, the two collector's edition boxes I threw away last week would have read, "Richard Garriott's Ticket to Space: So Long, Suckers!"
Meh, TR wasn't that bad, it was just poorly marketed. When I played it I had fun, but the server was full of people expecting some sort of steroid quake on training wheels, which it wasn't.
The mixture was a bit too odd for the WoW-heads of the time - me included, so I stopped playing it (that and the fact that I could not find something to keep me tied in the end-game.)
Just like professional ball players you're only as good as your last season. Tabula Rasa did not perform up to the expectations, for a multitude of reasons, and neither Garriott or NCSoft is really going to be trusted with another title. People will take a wait and see approach to any projects they are involved in.

Tabula Rasa was a good game, at least in my opinion. But nothing compared to the stuff he did with the Ultima series. So if he gets back to crafting a roleplaying experience, I'm all for it... but if it's another 3rd person pseudo-shooter... nah.
Garriott takes a lot of blame he shouldn't. Yes his name was on the game and was responsible but it wasn't like he single handedly created TR. I don't care what anyone says, the first 20 levels were fun unless you are into slow pull old mechanic stuff. Communication at this pace was a little bit of an issue but beyond that there just wasn't enough content in the game and people left.
I wouldn't have issues with him working on another game, but maybe he should move out of MMOG's for this one.
TR was trash in beta, it launched as trash, they never fixed issues that existed in beta (they nerfed the graphics for crying out loud), and it crashed and burned.
while he may not have made the game single handedly it WAS his name that sold me the pre-order. even when i was in beta i remember thinking "oh, well hes in-game surely hes here to fix things". wrong.
as far as i'm concerned Garriott and Molyneux should both be dropped on a deserted island with nothing to eat but KY jelly. forever.
I would hire him, give him a mop and a bucket and tell him to get to work. If he complained I would tell him he was lucky we let him come back to our planet vs. launching him further into space.
I think the only reason they did not launch him further out was the fact aliens might find him and then think ALL the humans on planet earth are douchebags!
If you look closely on his back you can see a summers eve logo, I swear!!

While I have no immediate need or use for Mr. Garriott and his bag o' tricks, I am pretty sure that the Obama Administration is gonna need a good storyteller in the near future (lots of broken election promises to cover up smooth over and whatnot).
Other than that I am with Spare on this one.....fire his ass further into space.
