Default Magic World Online Review

The Game That Plays Itself

It's that time of the week again for Dalmarus to get thrown into slave pits, unable to return to the light of day until his review is done. Fortunately for him, and for you (trust me), his work is complete with a look at Magic World Online. The story telling in the game may be good, but read on to find what horrid abomination our trusty writer (slave boy) uncovered inside the game!

When getting into a new game, I don't want to feel like a monkey looking at a math problem while I'm trying to figure out the basic mechanics. In this regard, MWO does a good job of getting you into the flow of things quickly.

Wow, that really kills any thought of trying this game...ever, why bother if it plays itself? Sadly this is not thing reserved for just this one game either, I have played another one with a similar bot function that plays it for you, sadly I can not name it because it is still in Alpha NDA

Who whats to take bets that this game wont last long?

Reminds me of that joke game, that you just turn it on, pick a class/race and youre off and running through the text based game... Cant think of the name of it though.

I dunno they help eliminate the grind which allot of veteran MMO player's hate so if there is quality in the end game it might have a slight chance.

If the class system has any kick like as described could be really cool.

Although the idea of allowing players to access end game content, particularly PvP, easily isn't bad, they should have considered something like GW, where you can simply role a PvP character at max level, or even what their considering for GW2, and even all levels in PvP, wile giving them PvP equipment which is equal.

I am surprised that a F2P game had some compelling story content though, I wish I had some broader experience to weigh that against, but F2P games simply arn't worth it, and probably never will be as long as their source of revenue is an Item Mall. The need to come up with more creative and functional features to sell in F2P games to give them the proper foundation. No matter how good the game turns out to be when it is released, if their relying on an item mall, it's fair to bet that they'll fail in the long term support and continuation.

Default The review was noobish

First you complain about lack of customization. That isn't true, because it has many. First of all, you can customize your appearance with a "Plant dye" to change your hair color in RGB scale (like pink, purple, maroon, etc) , and can also change your hair style at the same NPC. Secondly, armor and weapons are highly customizable. When you raise your craftsman, Blacksmithing, Tailoring and Alchemy you can compose special stones that give stats. For example: Blood stones (aka leech stones) can give a percentage to suck HP out of your damage you give. People are know to have 400% (that's actually 40% hp leech from damage given) as a bare minimum. You can also have sockets ( for a maximum of 6 rows) mounted to your armor or weapon. Then all classes have 2 type of weapons (except mages) which goes like this: Warrrior Axe/Sword; Summoner Scythe/Whip; Archer Gun/Bow; and Mages Staff. Then you have armor quality which goes as following: Normal, Refined, Blue, Gold, Legend and Deva. There's many was to customize your character.

Then you complain about drops, please get over it. NO MMOG GIVES YOU ANY PERFECT DROPS ALL THE TIME.

Then you complain about the bot system, even though many (if not all) have bots (mostly against EULA) so why complain about something that's plaguing the MMOG world except in MWO where it's legal? HMMMMM? Furthermore, maybe they considerated the fact players have lifes to live and can't be on 24/7 grinding...working without pay isn't fun.

Then you complain about game events, which they host alot of by the way. Not to mention you can have guild wars, Statewar (since their is 2 fractions fighting against each other, funny how you forgot to mention that) and Siege war. Furthermore, guilds can customize their guildhouse so intensively. You have your own piece of land with a castle on it, that's the guildhouse. On this marvelous estate you can construct buildings to make your guild stronger. For example: Walls; Armory (for catapults lv 1 and 2, and flying castle); Foreign ministry office ( to make alliances and declare war), Bar (hire guild guards); and so much more. Not only that, the guild members can get promotions like Vice President, Foreign minsiter, Minister of Industry, Minister of Interior, and more. Plus, guild mates who don't have special titles can contribute to the guild for non-official titles like Lt, Captain, Colonel, Sergent, etc. Another thing is if you complete special (and they're difficult is high) quest, you can get Kingdom titles that give special bonus (highest being King, who can adjust taxes and etc) Funny how you didn't mention any of this... all this customizing.

Your review suck so bad that my eyes bled. Why do you still have a job? I have read other reviews you made, and they always suck. You're what people call a hater. No matter what anyone does, you will hate it. You can't get to lvl 15 and except you know the whole thing. And if you have any doubts of my honest, here's the website address: mwo.playcomet.com It's all there. Yet, the biggest complaint you had was customizing your character but I just plagued your pathetic half ass review with it.

Kudos to you for sticking up for a game you enjoy, Hanzo.

I still have to disagree with a few things, but that's why we're all here - to discuss our views about gaming, right?

I'm sorry, but I can not, and never will, support a game that has a built in bot. Call it principle or what ever you want, but it's not going to happen - ever. Just because other games are sometimes plagued with player-made ones doesn't make it any better.

I'd also like to think I'm not a hater. I'll admit I can be a little harsh on the majority of FTP MMOG's out there, but there are still plenty that I gave good reviews for because they're fun: Exteel, Combat Arms, Perfect World International.

In any case, you get rep for standing up for the game

Default Free? I don't think so

OK, i understand that dev's have to make money one way or the other, but if you are a MMO fan you will quickly agree that this is a farce and run back to WOW or whatever monthly fee-based game you were playing before you tried this "free" one.

You can play the game for free, although it will most likely be on your own, or with a team of your own bots because people that are encountered in various areas are RARELY actually there. Even in my guild, which boasts 50 members, 20 or so will be online at a time and only 2 or 3 will actually be sitting at their computers. I used to hate it, but i actually miss the days of shouting "lvl 25 healer LFG" or something similar, because that has never happened here... and it is a shame, because grouping and that camaraderie that takes place, even if it is digital, is a big part of the reason why MMO's are so popular.

The in-game events and "instances" that i have seen are few and far between and have so far consisted of rediculoulsly powerful boss mobs attacking the cities and what not, which, unless you are one of the higher level characters that have beefed away with your bot for a month, can't even cause any damage to anyway, let alone kill.

The game doesn't have much of a community, i remember when i was playing Dark Age of Camelot, there was a genuine community of realm vs. realm, and even stronger inside my own guild. Dungeons were cleverly designed, and there was actual research that went into "where are we going to level up today?" .... say what you will about camping for levels, but i used to really enjoy it, the bot has ruined all that. I never needed to be the most powerful in the game, just strong enough to enjoy the game... this can't really happen in MWO unless you are at the top of the stack. ..

The realm vs. realm stuff, or even areas that are popular such as cities, CLEARLY overload the server. I personally have a high-end Alienware PC and a very solid internet connection, yet these battles lag to the point where i feel i am watching a Sega Genesis try to handle the higher levels of Thunder Force. You simply can't focus on anything that is going on... the veterans get used to this, and excel at getting through it, but I have to ask myself "why should i have to put up with this???"

Ok, now to the real reason to avoid this game, and this is something that will quickly be discovered after you realize that being a level 40 (out of 75 levels) character makes you a pittance of a warrior.
Getting to a high power position is almost completely dependent on your capability and willingness to shell out real-world money to buy "plats" that can get you anything from millions of gold, to stronger weapons, to mounts. Sure, you can get these things without ever spending real money, but it will take AGES and because you probably bott-ed your way to level 40, you most likely don't know how to control your char anyway :P

The people who are the most powerful, and many will blatently claim this is not the case, PAID to be that way in one way or another, many of them spending hundreds of US dollars a month to become that way... compare this with the normal expected $15-20 a month for other MMO's which have excellent dev teams, variations of gameplay, and ability for people of all levels to have something to do, and you can write MWO off for being a farce of a free game with very very little actual content.

all in all... give this one a look, you will get addicted at first.... but then i think you will agree, if you are looking for a game that is fun outside of the top 5 levels.... better look far far away from MWO
