Rep is handed out by members (both positive and negative), Easy ways of getting rep are to post constructive/interesting/actually funny things in appropriate forums/threads (aka, be a valuable member of the community).
Easy ways of losing rep are by posting immature, inappropriate, unsociable thins any where. (oh, and begging for rep is a bad idea)
True, but in this case he actually went out of his way to post in an appropriate forum. Granted, his post isn't a perfect example of literacy, but at least he's trying.

oh, I agree. This isn't begging for rep. Just some of his other posts were.
I think we have a pretty fair community of posters around here. Even when opinions conflict, when arguments are posted properly, few get hosed on the rep.
It's all about playing nice and following the rules!
