It's official. Tabula Rasa will be no more as of February 28, 2009.
Quote:
Last November we launched what we hoped would be a ground breaking sci-fi MMO. In many ways, we think we've achieved that goal. Tabula Rasa has some unique features that make it fun and very different from every other MMO out there. Unfortunately, the fact is that the game hasn't performed as expected. The development team has worked hard to improve the game since launch, but the game never achieved the player population we hoped for.
So it is with regret that we must announce that Tabula Rasa will end live service on February 28, 2009.
Before we end the service, we'll make Tabula Rasa servers free to play starting on January 10, 2009.
It's a shame that such a promising MMOG ended this way.
sad but not suprising, I played it in beta and live for a while. Got a spy to 50 and a sniper to 38. I left a long time ago after so many broken promises. I for one, got tired of the carrot and stick of this feature will be out next patch, then 3 patches later still no feature.
Oh well, hopefully other mmo's will learn from their mistakes and make even better mmo's.

The MMORPG industry is not about "Inner Beauty" nor is it about "Being Unique" and it's certainly not about "Potential".
The industry itself is a fickle, fashion-show that demands performance, looks and class.
Unfortunately that's just how it is. Regardless of how many people want to cry "But the game had so much potential!" or "It was good once you got into it!"
We don't live in the ideal world where those qualifiers are worth anything at all.
It's going to become a growing trend where these kind of half-hearted games go limp and die after launch because despite their unique traits or fun, innovative ideas, they lack the fundamentals that make a well structured, stylized MMORPG.
Tabula Rasa had neat and amusing ideas but it lacked all of the things that people have built their mind around for MMORPGs.

really it is good riddance to bad rubbish.
i hoped so much from this game, after playing CB it looked real sketchy, after a year i actually tried what it had (held my preorder CE that long) and couldnt even find the heart to play past 40.
i see this as a good thing, natural selection and all. this just frees up more potential subs for a GOOD sci-fi mmorpg.
i hope RG never makes another game after what he did with this one.
such a shame, it must be blizzard payin a bit more for ncsoft than TR subscribers
its really a shame because this game was at least a little bit different, even tho they chose the wow way in the end.
shallow end game content? true, but from 1337 kiddos who try to "beat" an mmo in 1 week? oh come on.. shame.
the other guy on an other forum said he had issues with the combat system. please... no other game on the market has this fast paced combat.
whatever the real reason was behind it i think ill never go with ncsoft again.
if u had your first month still goin on the 21st u got all the "ph4t" freebies.
i havent got **** for paying my and my gf's subs for a year*with about 2 weeks of break*, the last month expired yesterday.
not like i'd want anything from them. they cant really substitute this fun, casual and one-of-a-kind in its own way game.
sad.

if you want fast paced combat play unreal. TR tried to pretend asif, but it failed, i liked it more when you could REAP exp from combo-killing for hours.
i wish it was a successful sci-fi mmorpg, sadly it was nowhere near even after being given tons of time to fix itself (nerfing the graphics was to me the kiss of death).
there are no fast paced mmorpg's, sequencing is not a substitute for skills, never has been and never can be.
did they even put in Howling Maw depths instance?, there was also much more then these 2 planets in game in beta (there were listed), O well another game that fails due to poor marketing and content issues well the 900 hours were fun that i had in the game, time to put this one on self along with my AC2,AA, Fury now TR, of DEAD MMOs so sad
One of the things that drew me to Tabula Rasa at the beginning of the year was that as a sci-fi MMO it was completely different from WoW.
I enjoyed playing it but found finding people online, i.e. not being able to add people to your friends' list without them being online, really made it difficult to get up with RadarX and the other Ten Ton Hammer people. To me it continues to amaze me how some games make the social aspect (finding friends and the sort) difficult. A new game should make it easy to add friends to your friends' lists since most of the time you are playing it to hang out with them. My real life friends in my old town got me into WoW and adding their toons was a piece of cake. Why this is not addressed more is beyond me. Age of Conan had the same issue.
Still it is sad to see a game that had a lot of potential being turned off. I guess with Stargate Worlds and other MMOs of the same genre it was not worthwhile to continue operations. This will hurt NCSoft's image and their next game may have a "wait and see" approach as people will not be as willing to buy the game at initial release.

This saddens me because TR was always a game I could go back to. It never had enough in it to be my main game, but whenever I was sick of something, it was there for me, like a puppy that was left outside.
I hope this doesnt turn other MMO Makers off from making a fast paced sci-fi mmo.
Maybe as a token of good faith to the loyal community, NC Soft should release the software to host servers publically. Such as certain software people are using for semi-private wow servers.
