As the second expansion to the World of Warcraft draws nearer, Blizzard has unleashed the plague on the old world. Since the Wrath of the Lich King, is all about the Lich King, he has sent his forces to invaded the land. He has sent scourge zombies to Azeroth to convert unsuspecting players into mindless zombies to attack and convert other players. In this weeks editorial, Byron "Messiah" Mudry gives you his take on the event.

Once very cool thing about being a zombie is the ability to attack players of your own faction. This to me is gold! How often has someone of your own faction pissed you off, but there was nothing you could do about it. Now you can, get infected and go chase them down. Or hey, what about those slackers from your guild that don't pull their weight in a raid! Get converted and hunt them down too! There is no loyalty as a zombie, just brains to eat!
You can read all the details in Messiah's editorial here: The Zombie Invasion.

Nice concept but bad implementation. The first few times it's fun but when I can't get a daily or turn one in because the questgivers are dead, when I can't get a taxi because the flightmaster is dead, when my Level 1 Banker toons can't buy something at the AH because the auctioneer is dead or because my Banker toon is killed..well, it grows old fast.
Also, if the NPCs kill you it's a repair bill and that does NOT make me happy.
It should be optional and leave the damn NPCs alone.

The first time I saw them I thought it was cool. After I learned what was going on and fought them, I still thought it was cool. However, as everyone has said, it got old very fast. Today was terrible. I just wanted to do the Put Out The Fire dailes so I could try to get another Sinister Squashling (nice suprise!) and it was nearly impossible with all the zombies running around. My priest and my shaman were spamming Cure Disease all the time and it was still a nightmare. Everywhere I went the zombies were there. Killing flight masters, inn keepers, blacksmiths, etc. Anyone I wanted or needed to speak with seemed to be zombie food. It turned short trips into very long ones if I got infected. I just started blowing myself up to end it and get out of there. Sigh.
+1!!! Talk about a pain in the ass!!! I was running one of my tiny toons thru Westfall and the guy I needed to turn my quest in was dead, so I figured I'd wait it out and of course the zombies come back and start chasing me I got away and went back to see if I could turn in my quest and these losers were just standing there killing the NPC I needed every time he spawned So I logged pissed off and got Trevbo slaughtered them all. got the plague of course had to blow up, repair...To me it just sucks all around and I can't wait for the plague to be gone.

Yeah, this editorial pretty much sums up my feelings on it. I think its great that a huge event, affecting everyone, is unfolding before Lich King; but I don't like the options thats been forced on me.
I don't know what its like on PVP servers, but on PVE, we can't even attack player zombies in cities. However, they can still infect you. I find it extremely unfair that you can't do anything to defend yourself or your cities against the players. I had a great time helping a wall of defenders put down a crowd of zombies coming at us....except there were 2 players in the mix and they just walked right up to us and barfed on us, infecting us all.....couldn't do anything about it.
Its a great idea, but the way it was implemented has made it like Christmas for griefers.
Well done editorial, summing it all up in a nutshell.
The zombie infestation is cool and all when left in check to certain areas, but it's gone way too far with many players abusing the privilege of becoming one. Infecting other players who don't want to participate is not cool!
I play on a PvE server for the very reason I HATE PvP. I don't do BGs and I don't flag for PvP events(EPL, Terokkar Forest, Halaa, Hellfire, etc.). But being FORCED by participate in this PvP event is going too far. On a PvP server, I say go for it, that's what PvP is all about and I'm sure they're loving it on those servers. But on a PvE server, I want to be able to just enjoy questing without having to watch my back everywhere I go. If I choose to participate in it, by like killing zombie players or zombie npcs, then I should be marked for PvP and risk the possibility of getting infected. Otherwise, I shouldn't be forced into something I don't want to participate in regardless of how many zombie infected players are running around me on a PvE server.
Example, I'm over in SSO doing dailies and a group of lvl 70 infected zombie players start chasing me, so I have to stop what I'm doing to run a few miles to get away from them, but wanting to finish SSO dailies(to become exalted) before going to work almost made me late for work having to take longer to finish up dodging all those zombies. Or going along the coastline to rescue the murlocs, but in place of those murlocs are 30+ zombies at almost EVERY murloc spot!
At least with it only being a minute before infection now, it seems the plague is now being more confined to the major cities. But it's impossible to enter a city without having a zombie infect you. Plus the problems of not being able to do banking, auctions, or talking to NPCs.
Server lag is almost a big problem now, as the areas are littered with dead bones everywhere and it seems like an army of zombies are marching everywhere in any high populated area. All this extra activity is really causing some lag issues in any major city, when it use to be just confined to normal everyday Shatt lag. Plus it seems they're rebooting servers left and right and even the world server went down yesterday briefly.
I guess this is one way Blizzard can get us to hate Lich King (or them) even more before the release of LK and cause us to want to buy the expansion to unleash all this anger we've built up to drive us to lvl 80 to take on the Lich King and end this madness!
Yeah, thanks blizzard. Like epl and wpl weren't enough of a headache. Now I have to deal with this crap in every major city.
It's kind of the point.
It's a short lived event that is suppose to inconvenience, scare, harrass, and literally kill you.
What better way to bring about your hatred of the Scourge and Arthas then a bunch of d*mn zombies running around killing everything in sight, making more and more zombies?
Would the undead armies of Arthas NOT kill you just because you decide to opt out of today's invasion? Of course not!
Yes, I agree it is annoying to have to "deal" with it when all you are trying to do is bank, use the AH, send mail, use a flight point etc.
But again I think that's the point. I encourage Blizzard to do this type of intrusive event again, but I doubt they will given the mass outcry they have to be receiving.
I hope in the next phase level 70 and 70+ elite mobs start attacking cities in force, slaughtering any who won't stand together and fight!
Then right at the end, right before WotLK ships to stores Arthas himself brings an Army to Azeroth and just kills every man/woman/chilld in every major city.
What better way to convince people to set their sites on killing Arthas then letting him run rampant in Azeroth slaughting everything?
