It was either delay the game indefinitely or release three separate stand-alone single-player campaign products. Starcraft II players will initially be able to enjoy a 20+ mission Terran campaign titled, Terrans: Wings of Liberty, followed by Zerg: Heart of the Swarm and Protoss: Legacy of the Void.
The decision to ship the three single-player campaigns as separate products does not affect Starcraft II multiplayer, which will include fully implemented units for all three races.
Brilliant idea or brilliant spin to keep the game from being delayed? Have your say!

No price was announced, but the words "three complete games" were used, so I expect $49.99 each or so... they will be released separately with Zerg and Protoss essentially being "expansions".

The $50 price point is just speculation on my part, but they did mention more than once that they would be three "complete" games.
I could easily see them retailing for $50, unless the time between releases ends up being relatively short. Either way I wouldn't expect to see anything lower than $40 which is the retail price for the Wrath expansion.
My own Battle Chest related comments aside, I do think this is an interesting way to be able to get the initial campaign into player's hands in a better time frame. Between being a 'complete' single player experience and the sure to be popular multiplayer I have a feeling fans will be happy to get a 'first of three' rather than waiting another year or more to get all the content at once.
