Blizzcon 2008: Blizzard Announces New Diablo III Class
You can always expect an exciting announcement from Blizzard at their annual fan event Blizzcon, and this year they haven't disappointed. As thousands of fans pack the halls to view games like World of Warcraft, Starcraft, and more they had their opportunity to get a sneak peek at what the future holds. Today marked the first public viewing of another Diablo III class, the Wizard. With lots of magical exploisions, area of effect spells, and even the undead this looks to be a perfect addition to this highly anticipated sequel.
Stay tuned to Ten Ton Hammer as we bring you more from 2008 Blizzcon.
How nice that Wizard might look, i think most Blizzard 'fans' are going to go back home with a mixed feeling.
First of the news that Starcraft II will be released at one race per game, what pretty much makes people think they are going to charge the consumer for the full price per disc.
Also i read that they removed some quests in WoW for epic fly mounts in their expansion because they weren't as obvious to find(they say) and replaced them with big gold sink items you have to buy, since i'm not familair with things in WoW i'll just quote it:
"Tigole: Yes, it will be 1000g when it goes live. It was originally part of a quest line but we found that it wasn't intuitive where to get it. We also tuned the cost around the amount of gold you will have accrued by level 77. Unless you're spending excessive money on the AH as you level up, you will have more than enough gold to afford the cost. "
But i think they biggest and worst news i heard of Blizzard recently was this:
"Is Battlenet going to remain free?"
And the following is taken from Joystiq.com
"His response probably wasn't what you'd want to hear. "We are looking to monetize Battle.Net so that we get to keep making these games and updating features," said Wilson. "We kind of have to." He went on to say that they do recognize that everyone loves having it as a free service, and that they don't have a strong desire to make a subscription-based game."
Joystiq said more info will become available later.
Now look carefully at the words picked they said "Subscription-based game" this however doesn't exclude the possibility they might end up paying per month for their services of all game or per year.
Personally the question i ask myself. "Is it smart in this day and age with high speed internet connections and piracy being a big issue to go and ask money for the online services, a big reason why people buy the games and don't just download it"
