When The World of Warcraft:Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK) was announced, there was a new instance that captured many players attention, the new Caverns of Time: The Culling of Stratholme. The instance is based on the mission from Warcraft III that started Arthas's turn to evil as he insists on purging the city of Stratholme after its inhabitants became infected by the Dreadlord Mal'Ganis's plague. Now that Blizzard has allowed the creation of level 80 pre-made characters, it allows many players in the Beta a chance to explore and test some of the high level content. That's where Byron "Messiah" Mudry headed as soon as he created a level 80 restoration Druid.

Once the second part of the quest starts, Arthas and his friends will appear by Chromie and move towards the bridge. You get to see Arthas, Uther the Lightbringer and Jaina Proudmoore argue about Arthas's plan. Arthas then declares that he is taking a small force inside the city and you join him as he enters.
As I have mentioned before the current Caverns of Time instances were what finally got me interested in TBC, only about 2 weeks before release. This instance has me wanting to be 80 as fast as possible. I don't know Warcraft III or a lot of the lore (though TBC and again the Caverns of Time instances started my interest) but this instance just seems like it is going to be amazing.

Once at the market area you emerge through gates to the familiar fortress at the end of what was commonly called the Live (or Scarlet) side of Stratholme, where you are once again are confronted by the Dread-Lord Mal'Ganis. Mal'Ganis first taunts Arthas and then attacks. Being a Dread-Lord he has several shadow based special attacks that must be dealt with. These attacks include an AoE attack, sleep ability, mind blast and vampiric touch.
Being a lore nerd and playing an Alliance paladin on an RP server, it's safe to say that the Culling of Stratholme is the thing i'm MOST looking forward to in Wrath. My only question to the people who have run it is this: WHY are we helping Arthas purge Stratholme? If the Infinite Dragonflight wants to kill Arthas before he can become the Lich King, wouldn't that be a good thing? How do they justify helping him in the questline?
Chromie mentions that the Dragonflight don't want to kill Arthas, they barely want him to forget about Culling Stratholme, hence their disguising the grain with good one.
Speculation / Facts:
If Arthas didn't become evil and a Death Knight, he wouldn't have warned Illidan on how to defeat Tichondrius by consuming the Skull of Gul'dan, hence the Undead Advance would've been pushed stronger and stronger with Tichondrius and Archimonde both attacking Mount Hyjal, leading to a Burning Legion victory and destroying the world.
