When it comes to online trading card games, few companies do it better than Sony Online Entertainment's Denver studio. The work that they've done with Legends of Norrath, not to mention the Stargate online TCG, are fantastic and extremely fun to play. Recently, the studio released Champions of the Force, which is based off of SOE's Star Wars Galaxies MMORPG. Ten Ton Hammer's Cody "Micajah" Bye took a look at the new online TCG and has penned his review for you to enjoy. Check it out!

If you’re at all familiar with SOE-Denver’s other IP-based online TCG, Legends of Norrath, you’ll immediately feel comfortable diving into Champions of the Force. In fact, the two games are almost identical when it comes to gameplay mechanics. Player decks are comprised of an avatar and four quests along with multiple abilities, tactics, items, and units. During each turn, players can choose to deploy units, equip items, play abilities, or engage in combat on one of the two questing areas on the virtual table.
SOE just wants to take all your money before KOTORO releases and SWG dies a horrible horrible death.
Didn't they already die a horrible, horrible death?
The dictionary describes...
nge
1. The act of taking a great thing and making it totally worthless.
2. To make a community simultaneiously revolt against the over-seeing power.
3. To nerf beyond belief.

For what it's worth, I actually like the SOE-Denver card games better than SWG and EQ2.
SWG - Champions of the Force Card game - I have played it and while I do not like card games this is not bad. The artwork is nice and all the music and things add a flavor to the game. Subscribers to SWG get monthly booster packs for free. So loot hounds get a chance at stuff monthly or you can just buy packs. This game is a lot like Legends of Norrath and SOE-Denver puts out some very good card games. You don’t have to play SWG to play Champions of the Force. I think to claim the loot you have leave the Tansari Station which is like level 5. If you like Star Wars and Card games you will like this game.
SWG - I am a vet of SWG since Sept 04 and I officially quit SWG in May of this year. Since the NGE Epic fail the SWG team has done a fabulous job of making the game playable again. There have been changes to a lot of the systems in the game to make crafting more important again. I am not talking Pre-CU important but not post-nge worthless. They have also balanced the classes and made things a bit more even across the board. Collections and the instances have done a lot to bring back a purpose in the game and a lot of people I know still play SWG and enjoy it quite a bit.
I will never argue the NGE was not really bad but SWG has done A LOT to make the game playable again. So SWG is far from dead or even hurting.
Its not SWG from the glory days so if you do give this game a try again you have to clear your head and start fresh.
