Exclusive Earthrise PvP Interview from Leipzig GC '08
Hardcore player versus player enthusiasts, your game has arrived and it's named Earthrise. If you haven't already heard of it, Earthrise is a science fiction-based MMOG that features a heady mixture of ground combat, crafting, and a sandbox style world to create an incredibly volatile mixture of intense gameplay. At the Leipzig Games Convention, Ten Ton Hammer's Garrett Fuller had a chance to sit down with the Earthrise team and really discuss the particulars of their PvP gameplay. While the Ten Ton Hammer team previously talked to the Earthrise developers at GDC, Garrett took the interview even farther and really quizzed the devs about the PvP experience.

We got the chance to hear about a new zone in the game called “The Nest.” This game zone is set up for the criminals and rebels as a hide out from the authorities. If you decide you want to be a player killer from the start, you will immediately be marked as a criminal. Safe zones will be tough to enter and you’ll soon be outcast. This can be hard on the players who make this choice in game. The Masthead team is putting in The Nest as a place for the criminals. It may be tough to enter and survive in, but with many sandbox games eventually player will police each other. The Nest offers the rebel players a home, even if it is a dangerous one.
Defintly bumping this one.
This game has really stood out for me, love the ideas the devs have for it.
Plus it's the only MMoRPG in the last few years that looks good enough to offer me a home for longer then 2 months!
And 2 new screenshots yay
Looking forward to 2009 and playing this sooooo much.
Thanks TTH and keep the info coming on this please
Fantastic concept for a game really. I've long waited for a game to try to do what Ultima Online did and break away from the default "Faction Combat" and get back to something truly dangerous.
Although, my fears with this would be firstly, the executions of their features and secondly, their graphics.
The graphics look incredible via Screenshot, but they also look hardware intensive.
When it comes to MMO's, all marketing data and feedback shows that games with lower system requirements sell better and have more community longevity.
This is present in all current MMO's and I don't really see it changing much in the future.
Warhammer Online continues to face huge numbers of players who WANT to play the game but are afraid their machine won't run it. This is a low-end note since the specs for Warhammer are really, really, low.
Age of Conan saw significant numbers of its players cancel their subscription before the first month because the game either didn't run on their machine, or ran so poorly that they deemed it unplayable.
World of Warcraft (still the head-honcho) has some of the lowest system reqs in the industry and is... well... you know... huge.
Vanguard launched with rather hefty system requirements and in their Open Beta phase saw HUGE, EFFING GIGANTIC, numbers of players go from enthusiastic to downright angry because their machine couldn't handle the game. This was ultimately one of this game's crushing defeats to its community. Although it had a TON of other problems as well.
Additionally, even if you do have the specs to run any game under the sun, for most players, if your 3 best-buddies can't run the game, you probably won't switch whole-heartedly to it.
Basically, this game looks tight and I am extremely excited for it. It's definitely the next game I'm picking up after Warhammer (which is sick FYI, can't wait for beta to open again.) and if they do a beta for this I'm totally signing up. But those screenshots and the other released game media is just... awe-inspiring and frightening.

I agree - the 'danger' of this type of situation is much more intriguing than grinding away in safe zones...can't wait! Hope it lives up to it

Maybe, but the cost of systems or upgrades is going down quickly...I just built an entire system that runs Conan at highest settings for <$800, including speakers (not including monitor). Point being that even just upgrading video card and maybe processor will go a very long way in performance. The game and subscription for 1 year will be ~$225 US, so why buy it unless your system can handle it?
