We all know that World of Warcraft's upcoming expansion is bringing us a new class called the Death Knight. We also know that everyone wants one. Will these unholy warriors take over everything or will they merge nicely into the game? Find out in our latest editorial and be sure to stop by our forums and give us your opinion.

It’s no joke that everyone that plays World of Warcraft wants to make a Death Knight. Even you, the reader, are looking forward to making one. Half of you reading are honest about this and will exclaim with joy that you can’t wait and the other half are split between saying you love your main character and the disdain of the impending Death Knight blitzkrieg. Though, be honest with yourself, you’re going to make one if for no other reason than to play through the new starting area.

No you're not, not in the least. As for this Zerg, can anyone say Draenie Shaman or Blood Elf Paladin? There was supposed to be a huge onslaught of them also, which never happened. I don't expect the numbers of DKs to be any different then what we saw with them and the Shammies and Pallies came with their own spanking new starting areas.
/kek, I know I'm going to be rolling one as soon as they come out but then I'm notoriously bad at leveling....if I even make it through the start area I wouldn't put money on me making it to level 70, let alone 80.
Seeing as there is a real, or percieved tank shortage I feel that the introduction of the Death Knight will help balance this out a bit, but only in the end-game content when the dedicated DK players have leveled their new characters up to go raiding.
The only problem will be the huge amount of 60-70 death knights spamming LFG all the time to try and get into the TBC stuff while they still have a chance, because after a couple of weeks getting groups for heroics and Kara will be about as hard as trying to get a group for Zul'Gurub is now.
Personally, I don't see me rolling a death knight too soon, as I will be spending most of my time:
A) Figuring out how all those new Paladin abilities will work
B) Trying to keep levelling pace with my guildies, who seem to be on all the time!
C) Visiting the Paladin trainer over and over again until I get my spec right! (see A)
I'll probably try out a Deathknight for those moments when I just don't feel like playing my Paladin, but I don't know if I'm really into another melee fighter.
You know, as I think a little bit more about it, I wonder if the DK's will really alleviate the tank shortage anyway. Since they will be just as viable as a dps class, there may be a lot of DK's who go that route. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

How can DKs alleviate the tank shortage when the shortage is caused by too few people who want to tank not too few tanking classes?

I agree with this. Also, looking at the new feral druid talents, there are no cool new tanking abilities, especially for multi-target tanking (other than one ability on a 5-minute cooldown that tries to do too many things). If WoTLK intstances follow the model of, say, Magister's terrace with lots of huge pulls, I wouldn't be surprised to see fewer feral druids tanking, thus lowering the number of available tanks even as a new tanking class is added.

I will probably create a DK out of curiosity, but I am not all super anxious about it. I am just not that fond of melee combat. I have started an elemental shaman and so far the mace/shield thing is fine, but I look forward to the latter skills. I have no interest in tanking. If I do get a DK to 80 it will certainly be dps. Tanking is an art and a skill, and one I am just not interested in learning or seeing if I have it, at least at this point in the game. It may change or it may not. I do think that many people will get bored with their shiny new DKs and leave them abandoned finally. I can't imagine the lack of tanks will change until there are more players who actually want to be tanks. Period.

*Choke* are you serious? On Jubei'Thos (Oceanic server) there were so many Draenei shammies and Belf pallys that the server lagged for about a week after TBC came out. The starting areas for both were so packed with the new class/faction combo that nobody could get past level 5. The Draenei start was especially laggy because of all the totems
