Tried the game again after a break, and glad I returned
Just putting this post up for people who were interested in the game when it was released, but not interested enough to stick around because of various reasons.
So ill keep this short.
Played the game for the last few days, and it seems like a lot of changes happened:
graphical improvements - no longer looks rough around the edges on my PC on maximum settings
graphic engine upgrades - better framerates, sharper images, and due to some graphic engine settings, you can almost make framerate issues disappear with a few throttling setings
graphical user interface additions and changes - new icons, better looking GUI, easier to read information and tooltips (more of that coming next patch to finish it up), no more "Extreme/Heavy" damage, now we get base numbers, and more through information
quest NPCs working better - havent had a single bug where a quest failed, or quest diddnt work in a squad yet, and iv tried to break them
sounds being quicker after a triggering event - using the config file changes this for higher end PC users, this patch enabled us to do that, and it makes a giant difference from half a second after an explosion, to 1/10th of a second after
Hominus Machina no longer being total retards - and various other AI improvements to make things more of a threat, and challenging
battlefield improvements - like graphics when stunned by a howler, or flashed by a lightbender, NPCs that actually think about whats going on and what to do, new abilities for enemies, stronger bosses, etc etc
faster combat this patch - and apparently more changes coming. Like being able to cast certian abilities while moving (looking at you Specialists tree!), and will eventually be lots of our abilities (but not all)
balance changes to PvE - pretty much for all the classes that were in need of assistance. Soldeier - Commando - Grenaider - Guardian - Ranger - Spy - Sniper - Specialist - Sapper - Demo - Engineer - Biotech - Medic - Exobio ; and for my opinion, all of them have been for the better, and made it more fun and challenging. All classes have had a retooling, or a completely new skill added. It isnt perfect still, but it is damn close in my opinion, for all classes.
additional reason to craft & do CPs - Prestiege vendors are pretty cool, and so are the grey market guys
actual PvP - if you want to do more rewarding PvP, you may want to wait a patch where the CP PvP is enabled. So far though, the "Cellar" and Clan PvP have been much much better
All iv got for the list in 3 days.
It seems to have that "Starsiege: Tribes" feel to it now, if anyone remembers that game. It is fast combat, fun, difficult, and you actually need to think to kill stuff, or be more successfull than who ever you are fighting, or just survive.
Im not normally impressed by games who work in a linear fasion, but it seems like they have been working on a lot of new stuff. Cudos to the devs thus far, not sure how you've done all this in a few months. (must be some serious dev tools)
In a lot of ways, I wish this was the game that was released, but that is neither here or there.

Ok then : Part 2!
more missions related to areas that were easy to get lost in - for instance, anyone here have a little trouble finding the LOGOS for Incline, and not find the exploring fun? Now certian areas have more LOGOS missions, or more missions related to getting to other parts of the game
improvements to certian useless items, or additions to make things more useful - changing the repair tools to have an alt fire helped tremedously. I know I used to get a bit miffed that I had to target nothing to repair myself, and combining of the area & cone tools makes a big difference for group play. Also, additions of weapons like the double/tripple-shotgun, changes to lots of weapons (to make them better), including the rocket launcher, Torque Rifle, Blades, Staves, and all of the "Ammo-eating" weapons make the combat much easier and more fun
more useful green/blue/purple items - incase you werent around for the patch that improved those items, these items now gain a damage/repair/armor level bonus, in addition to any effects that they may have
females now with all the extra "femaleness" - a little over the top with the measurements, but at least it isnt as rough as they used to look (but I think it was the older tessilation system that made it worse). Im sure quite a few gamers coming from other games will like them better
bosses now more of a threat - remember the old days when you could 1-man an even level control point, heedless of the 100 thrax and kael in the way? Bosses have been added to many new areas, and they are much harder for the average player to eliminate by themselves. Those days of easy conquering are looking a bit dated now, most Bane CPs have at least 1 boss who would be more than happy to stop you
new instances (otherwise known as interactive stories) added to patches - almost all of them seem to be for higher level content. They still arent the cop-out that other games use instances for (non-stop grinding for "phat lewt"), you get a good story, some actual interaction with your environment, and maybe some phat lewt too
you can earn prestiege almost anywhere - and you can put items around your level, to raise the stakes and modify how quickly you gain that prestiege. Since prestiege can be used to buy good weapons, armor, schematics, and some other useful items, you can gain this gear far faster than just getting lucky on a boss run. That way, you are ensured a good item, just for putting in the time
Thats my additions to the list, from 8 days of playing

If you tried it before and liked it, but couldnt get into it, it might be worth doing another free trial. Or ask around for other input!

Reason: added list #2
I give iit 5 Rada rada"s I will for sure stick around longer now and take on a couple of the class's on the specialist tree that I haven't tried because they were borked but more than likely fixed now....Now if we only had the jet packs from tribes we would be "INVINCEABLE"(did I spell that right..mmmmm?)
Hmm. I think i'm going to reinstall and have a look as well.
Did they ever get around to putting in those mech things they kept talking about?
No, they keep pushing them back they say. They've put them on a burner farther in the back, behind new content like instances, PvP, crafting, other new additions, and rebalancing.
Glad i stuck my head in tonight to see whats going on w/ TR these days :-)
Nice to see ppl are still playing TR, tho it will prob take quite a bit to get me to come back. Core wise, i thought that TR was a great concept and game, but seems like it sufferd from AutoAssault - itis. Game was obviously pushed out to fast and very unfinished and buggy, that doesnt mean that its not fun tho. Hows the current population these days? I was playing on orion, is it still pretty sparse? Another reason i left was the tedium of the mid levels grind, have they added any more content to help out with this?
Sorry to hear about the mechs getting the back burner, was looking fwd to seeing what those would be like.
The main problem with Tabula Rasa was that they completely changed the game around 2004 or 2005. Just look at some of the E3 2004 and E3 2005 videos. E3 2005 is completely recognizable from the current game. While E3 2004 can be considered as WoW in Space. Due to bad reviews of the game at that point, Tabula Rasa was scrapped and redone. According to E3 2004, the game had unicorns (Kirin mask), player islands that are in a Black Hole, weapons that affect Body, Mind, and Spirit (swords, rifles, harps, etc.), and costume freedom similar to City of Heroes.
