If you look back in the annals of E3 past, make sure you take a good long look at E3 2005. That was the show to end all shows; there were fire dancers, thundering bass beats, and so many crazed fans that publishers were willing to pull out all the stops to insure a solid performance at the show. While E3 2008 will be a far cry from that monstrosity, we still do our best to love E3. To help insure your insider's look at the show, Ten Ton Hammer has convinced WAR's Josh Drescher to do an exclusive "live blog" that discusses each day's trials and tribulations from the show floor, and today we feature his first entry titled "The Electronic Entertainment Expo Used to Be Decadent and Depraved." It's filled with fun facts that all show-goers face, so make sure you give it a read!

Somehow, somewhere, we all got together and agreed to hold an annual, multi-day bacchanal that was aimed squarely at… well… generating “You Won’t BELIEVE What Happened At E3” stories that would help keep us all going throughout the rest of the year. Sure, making games meant spending countless dark and fearsome nights toiling until dawn to hit a deadline or fix a bug, but it ALSO meant spending a week in LA, trying to sneak into parties, collecting XXXL t-shirts from startled girls in revealing outfits and generally having a great, goofy time.

Josh does not like L.A then I take it? Will be a completely different show without all the fans though. Maybe they should make it like Glastonbury and sell tickets to it instead? Would bring in a positive income and the developers would be able to show their games to their fans.

I'm looking forward to Josh talking like a disgruntled mad man near the end of the week! Though I am glad to see him giving us a blog of what its like at E3 . Thank you Josh and TTH!

Josh nailed his description of E3. It's almost like gaming's version of 'A Christmas Carol'. You have the ghost of E3 past, which brings a nostalgic tear to your eye, the ghost of E3 present, incoherent and bumbling to find its way and the ghost of E3 future which is so translucent as to almost not be there at all.

Totally agree with you Boomjack. Admittedly I haven't been back to E3 since 2006, but I still remember the lingering ring I had in my ears for a week after the show. If the first hand accounts are any indication, the show has obviously yet to really retake its position as the conference leader. The name may still carry weight for awhile, but eventually people will be much more interested in going to shows like Games Convention, GDC, and/or PAX.
