Default WAR Cuts Four Classes For Launch!

In a recent interview with MMORPG, Mythic Entertainment's General Manager, Mark Jacobs, dropped a hammer on the community by announcing four classes would not be in the game's launch. On the chopping block was the Greenskin Choppa, Dwarf Hammerer, Dark Elf Blackguard, and Empire Knight of the Blazing Sun. If this didn't hit you hard enough, he also stated only two capital cities would be ready at launch, meaning another four are still in development.

Unlike the capital cities [which provided a silver lining in the end], I can honestly say that I really wish we didn’t have to cut them out, but it’s better for them to be cut out than to have classes that aren’t great and that we would spend more time trying to make them great post-launch than we should have to.”

In the end, the team felt that adding careers into the game that weren’t up to their standards would have hurt not only the game and the company, but the players as well. Trying to fix classes (that are already in the game) post-launch can cause a boatload of nightmares as players not only of the careers involved, but of other careers as well. Many MMO players have experienced the nerfing and other annoyances that are often involved in a great deal of tinkering with an existing class, and Mythic didn’t want to put anyone through that experience unnecessarily.
Wow is all I can say.... What effect do you think this will have on the game?

wow...if it really ends up like that.... smells like a vanguard release? cutting classes, even citys. doesnt smell good from all this. sure it sounds great that they dont want to release a unfinished class but meh, it wont make people happy to cut out 4 classes from the release line up. I guess they think they can't afford to hold the game up much longer.

As he said only having 2 cities, it isn't entirely unexpected, is kind of neutral. I always thought the logistics of attacking/defending three cities would be difficult. This just makes my life as a future Guild Officer(gonna be posting our guild on Forums soon I hope...still hammering out details)

The only one of the cut classes that will really hurt them is Choppa. Lots of people looking forward to that. KotBS all I saw was another AoC conqueror; A sub-par buff-bot tank that can't do much without a group and that has trouble finding a group. Black Knight...no info released nobody had gravitated toward that class yet. Hammerer...yeah this will hurt not as bad as choppas though...I think this will just mean more Ironbreaker Stuties to kill.

My Chosen or Marauder was not cut...so I am slightly saddened but relieved. This game still has 12 more classes then WoW. Only game that I can think of that ever had more was pre-cu SWG (36 customizable classes ftw).

This is a real shame, though I do still feel they will be included in the future. The cities, well, we really haven't had images and videos of those four cities that are cut as well as the four careers, although we've seen old videos of the Hammerer.

Another concern is since the Empire have lost their tank and Chaos have kept theirs, what will happen in ealier stages/tiers of RvR between Empire and Chaos? Empire have lost their tank so they'd rely on Ironbreakers and Swordmasters that start in different zones!

I agree with you completely Tikuto it will likely be put in within the first six months, but most people make their play decision based on the first three.

it's a real hammer..many people where concered about it before..and now it's true.

the city-cut might not effect gameplay so much, but for me it just feels wrong.

the cutting of the careers is a harsh cut and might change faction-balance significantly. when there is a rock-paper-scissor pairing planned and you just give the players rocks and paper or just to one side and not the other.
tanks on both sides should expect to gain some extra "free miles" for frequent flying

all in all this announcment about the cuts frustrates me.
i understand the arguments, but on the other hand i get less then announced for my money.

Well I hope this doesn't hurt the game too much. Its better they came out with this info a few months before release then in the same week of the release. I applaud Mythic for their Honesty in this issue.

Also the hype-mobile was starting to run off the road...people will come into this game thinking it will be ok now...and will be happier if its great.

This is bad, really bad. I for one am willing to wait however long it takes, please Mythic dont do this! (look at AoC!)

This makes me so sad, thats hard core behind, only 2 cities? 4 classes? First blemish on this game for me and its a big one. Very disappointing.

Yet another game I will have to pay to beta test (Until its actually done a few months later)

Why cant game companies just frigging finish their stuff!!!

Why do they not just delay the game again then? I was so looking forward to starting off as an Orc choppa! My whole GUILD was going to be laid out on the foundations of me being a Greenskin choppa. Now they have taken that away from me before the game is even OUT has severely lowered my opinion of Mythic Entertainment.

Its seriously going to hurt the balance of the game to remove two melee classes and two tank classes, not only will goblin shamans have to hide behind black orcs now, but everyone who wanted to play a choppa is now going to go and roll a Chaos chosen. So I am going to go ahead and guess that the Greenskin v Dwarf campaign is going to be a little on sided as the majority of Greenskin fans seriously wanted to play a Choppa. No Choppa = no go for Greenskin. No go for Greenskin = Unbalanced population ratio between Dwarfs and Greenskins.

As for me? I am highly annoyed by this, so mad that my whole 12th of July drinking weekend is going to have a dark cloud hanging over it. BUT, I am STILL going to stay with the Greenskin family, I will just roll a Black Orc instead...

Lets just all pray that this is a HUGE and highly mean practical joke by the Mythic Entertainment PR team.
