Sneak Peek - New Wrath of the Lich King Battleground
Blizzard's PvP discussion panel at last weekends Worldwide Invitational in Paris talked about everything PvP. The panel was made up of Tom Chilton (Lead Game Designer), and Cory Stockton (Lead Level Designer) and they covered lots of PvP information. In this fourth article covering the panel, Byron "Messiah" Mudry gives you the rundown on the battleground being added to the game with Wrath of the Lich King. It looks like it will be a very exciting place where we will get further opportunity to play with siege vehicles.

The arena layout reminds me much of a Dieppe type beach assault (for all you American readers, think Normandy). The attacking force lands on the beach coming out of assault boats and has to fight their way up the beach towards the objective at the top of the ridge. There are several wall sections that need to be destroyed, and flags and graveyards to capture so that you can continue to advance.
Hmm, the way the map is set up reminds me of D-Day in WW2 for some reason. Dunno if Blizz modled this map after D-Day or what but there seems to be a good comparason. But me like, me like.
It does look very similar to the landing map from Battlefield 1942 - for anyone who played that game. I'm sure that was part of the inspiration.
I'm wondering about balancing, though. In FPS games such as this (and in fact historical battles) the attacker tends to need an advantage in numbers to get oevr the defender's position. If this is the case here I think all Horde players are at an automatic disadvantage.
Nah because the Horde work together....Alliance will all think they know better then everyone else and storm the area themselves, get clobbered, complain they didn't get healed and everyone else are noobs and then the healer will get attacked and die and they'll be like "sorry didn't see it"...
Go Alliance!

Quoted for DA TRUF! But yeah, it does seem that the attackers will either need heavy strategy and/or numbers to over come the defenses, which will prove to be an actuall challenge for the horde as they are shorter in numbers than alliance, and not all Hordies PVP at end game so yea we are at somewhat of a dissadvantage. But heh, all the better wins if you can over come a dissadvantage. Am I right or am I right?
I'm wondering what kind of defenses the defenders will have.... if it's just impassable walls thta must be destroyed by the seige weapons then mve onto wall #2 I'll be a little dissapointed.
On the other hand, if they're anything like how you control the seige weapons in WAR that'll be fun
Looks cool, the only problem I see is that Blizzard mentioned extra honor for destroying stuff with siege weapons, that sounds to me like 10-15 people camping the siege weapon spawn, I just hope I get into the beta and see how it all turns out.

i heard that it will be set up like the longer the defenders hold the stronghold the stronger advantage the attackers have.....i guess they learned thier lessons from halaa, seeing as though alliance holds it 99% of the time on our server, when we get a raid going against it ive never seen more alliance swarm to defend something than they do it lmao
