Blizzard's PvP discussion panel at last weekend Worldwide Invitational in Paris talked about everything PvP. The panel was made up of Tom Chilton (Lead Game Designer), and Cory Stockton (Lead Level Designer) and they covered lots of PvP information. In this third article covering the panel, Byron "Messiah" Mudry gives you the rundown on the upcoming Orgrimmar Arena, including what makes it unique.

The second new element in this arena is a fighting platform at each end of the arena. When a platform rises up anyone on it will be out of melee range from players on the ground, but still in affected by ranged abilities. Also while a platform is up a wall of spikes will rise separating that area from the rest of the arena. The pillar on each side of the arena alternates being up or down. Players will need to make a choice to either move through the spikes and take damage or remain separated.

Just read the blurbs for this and the Dalaran Arena - I like how they are making the environment much more involved in the outcome of the fight...not just walk in, play defensive, see who the other team has, etc etc....definitely interested to see how it is received.

I really like the ideas behind them as well, and the changes. However, I worry that the changes only further help the winning classes that already exist. The way these two arenas are setup, they further reduce a casters chance.

We will have to wait and see though.

Yeah alot of casters are going to have a rough time in the new arenas, but I mainly like the way it is set up though. My main PVP toon will be my mage once she hits 70, and since looking at those videos and seeing the arenas before I actually hop in will give me a substantial boost to bring my survivalbility chance to the max. The adjusting pillars will require players to not be able to just go in and attack from afar right off the bat, they will have to wait the blind spot out and the attack, or use the LOS to their advantage, which sadly to say a good 60% of the casters out there won't learn how to do and just lead to more complaining in the long run. But meh oh well, like the saying goes. Survival of the fittest, if you cant learn your class don't PVP :P
