Funny thing about my time with Perfect World is that I can't deal with the controls enough to play it very far. I got into the first real town and could tell the quests were about to get better, but I just couldn't stay motivated to play with the awkward controls. What I was seeing so far did not offer me anything I couldn't get somewhere else with better controls. The exception here, of course, is the character customization, which is awesome.
To answer your accusation, I didn't make the video to bolster any claim. I was writing a first impressions piece (not a review). First impressions are formed, well, you get it--first. My first impression was that the combat was pretty lame compared to other titles available. Had I leveled the character to 20 to see the exciting combat, I'd be dealing with second or third impressions.
I don't hate
Perfect World. I was just writing honest first impressions. When I do that for a game, I spend about 3 hours with it. I download, install, and play until I have spent 3 hours on the title. In the case of Perfect World, I spent a few minutes each day for 2 weeks just trying to find a place to download it. Some of the mirror links from the download page were invalid. Others led me to a site where I needed to sign up to download, something I did not want to do unless I had to. I finally found the download at FileFront.
After install, I figured I had about 75 minutes of play time left before I had spent my 3 hours on the first impressions. The truth is that after playing for those 75 minutes, I did not care if I never played the game again. Nothing grabbed me and lured me in. That does not mean it is a bad game at all. But in a market saturated with F2P titles, it does not bode well for
Perfect World.
Many people would have given up after not being able to find a download. Others would have been turned off by the controls as I was. And I am willing to bet that a lot of gamers would not have played for 75 minutes. My theory is that F2P games have a very short window of time to impress a gamer before they get uninstalled.
Hey, do you have a link to a combat video you want to share with everyone? One that you think shows the power of Perfect World in the mid-game?
