Blizzard discussed several of the instances that will be coming out in the Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK) this past weekend at the Worldwide Invitational in Paris. Byron "Messiah" Mudry was there to cover the event, and has all the details on yet another very cool instance being added in WotLK. Blizzard will be sending players back through the Caverns of Time (CoT) to assist Arthas before he became the Lich King in the level 80 Culling of Stratholme instance. This heavily scripted instance promises to be very interesting.
Quote:
As with most CoT instances this will be a heavily scripted affair, much like the Old Hillsbrad instance. In it you will join Arthas and fight by his side as he attempts to purge the infected city. Arthas did this after he realized that the population was already infect by the grain sent by the Dreadlord Mal'Ganis, and if they were not purged they would come back as members of the scourge. It is a direct replay of "The Culling" mission from Warcraft 3 and was one of the last acts before he went insane and became the Lich King.
It was two weeks before TBC when I read about the Caverns of Time and especially Mount Hyjal that got me finally interested in the expansion. I was never a lore fiend having only played Warcraft II in multiplayer (I started when the Dark Portal expansion released) and then played Warcraft III very sparingly as I thought it didn't add much from Warcraft II and never played the single player game.
When I heard about Stratholme being added as a CoT instance in WotLK I was really excited and reading more about this just is adding more excitement to the expansion with what is being added. I have a friend of mine who has been a WoW lore fiend as long as I can remember and when I told him about this instance if he had any doubts about the xpac it removed them...he simply cannot wait either.
I hope they continue to do more of these...they have definitely increased my interest in the lore of the game.

I watched the video and read the linked article and didn't see or hear any mention of Stratholme. The video was about Siege engines and the article was about the new PvP zone.
Did I miss something here? I am also excited to see 'Old Stratholme'.

Bah, my fault folks - the video is now displaying correctly. Enjoy Stratholme

I saw the video yesterday (forgot to check it when I initially posted) and all I have to say is "bring on Wrath!"...it looks awesome.
I never played the original mission in WC3 but from what my game friends have said it was a lot of fun and needless to say if I want to run that instance I do not think it will be hard to find a group for it .

Oh man, I WANT! I F@#$ING WANT! The culling was one of my most enjoyed missions out of the whole WC3 game, toped only by the mission where you had to bring archimonde into Azeroth. Under The Burning Sky I believe it was called. But still, even though I am not a big fan of the whole CoT idea it is quite fun to go and play major events of Warcraft lore. Thus one of the major reasons I will very much enjoy running this one Instance. Honestly here's hoping that there will be an invasion of silvermoon raid/instance in the CoT as well, prolly raid but heh doesnt matter, just something of that style. What would really make me have a nerdgasm would be a CoT instance of the summoning of archimonde, that would be teh shiznit haha.
Closest thing now is he is the end boss in Caverns of Time: Mount Hyjal but I do not know how that compares to the WC3 mission. I have not done the fight yet - we want to get a couple more BT bosses under our belts first - but he drops the tier 6 helm tokens and also my shaman's shield.
