It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't lock out my getting the next tier skinning quests. I have a feeling, though, that the higher in level you get, the less chance you have for getting the drop.

Ahh well. At least I'm still able to progress my Armor crafting!

It has to go by level.When i farm bears that i know drop with my 75 assassin nothing,well maybe 1 out of 20.I made my alt the other day got my pom up to 36,killed the same bears and they dropped like every 3 or so.They didn't really think that through i think.They need to make designated places in the high level areas for craft drops.I don't remember but i think keshatta has leather drops off of the lions and hyena's.They are to gapped apart though from like 63 bears in lacheish to 72+ in keshatta.

I got lucky and had an easy time with Brindled since it dropped extremely commonly from crocs, though their loot table has since changed unfortunately.

Otherwise I've gotten everything else maxed out now, with the exception of Black Silver... been trying since hitting level 20, and easily gathered 1k+ silver by now but no luck so far.

I do think level might play a factor though, at least from my experience with Silk. Before I was up to that quest I was getting it to drop fairly regularly. I didn't end up picking up the quest for it though until the mobs were gray-cons for me, so had to do a bit of backtracking to get the 20 to turn in. I spent many, many hours clearing out the Cannibal Cave in Eggo Mountains to finally get all of them ... so yea, at least for me it seemed my level played a role in drop rates. :/

Now I just hope the bugs with the 'alchemy kits' are worked out soon so that I can finally move beyond T1 with it ... assuming I can get them to drop from gray-con mobs that is

Level probably plays a factor, but I think it has more to do with the creature's level - not the player. My toon is level 43, but I had to go back and kill the level 20 wolves and dark stalkers outisde of Tesso to get my leather for the start of the gathering quest. Similarly to the silver and copper lines, I'd imagine that brindled would drop from the same type of creatures - lvl 20's near starter towns.

But, I've also read a lot of posts on how folks are frustrated about its rarity. So, take my non-scientific research with a grain of salt.

I, too, have had issues with gathering (e.g., same 1,000 silver but nada black).

But this is a very insightful comment (above on this thread) --> "They (AoC Devs/FunCom) didn't really think that through i think."

Crafting -- on the the aspects of AoC we're still waiting for as FunCom tries to eventually get the game out of closed beta and into release quality!
