It's no secret many old school MMO game players come from a PvE world which fits them like a comfortable sweatshirt. Some might have transitioned into the modern world of PvP combat but what will these others do in a world where conflict against players is not only inevitable but expected? We've put together a few suggestions to make the transition easier and integrate into a world of "Waaagh!"
Quote:
EA Mythic is attempting to do a lot of things differently with Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning whether it's their crafting system, living guilds, or Tome of Knowledge. One aspect that makes it standout however is the integration of PvP content into the very foundation of the game. Not satisfied with just adding an "appendage" of mechanics, Realm vs Realm combat will be the heart and soul of everything players do in the world.
If you click to use your abilities you are going to die a lot more than players who do not. .. The MOST important info i can give anyone is to keybind your abilities. .. and im not talking about focus macros or any other macro that auto targets and casts spells from your pet without you having to worry about it.. if you cannot target someone on your own and do what you have to do.. you're just cheating in my eyes.
Sure, you may be tempted in a PvP match to just run in guns blazing (swords swinging) and try to do as much damage as possible before getting completely annhilated...
But for someone who is new(er) to PvP, especially in the MMO setting, you can greatly increase your kill count and survivability by hanging back a bit, let the battle unfold before your eyes, choose the best time to enter the fray, even pick off weakened targets.
Let the crazy hardcore PvP Gods run in and stir up the pot, hang back a bit, watch and learn, but most importantly be ready to pounce at any moment.
And yes, this does work for melee players too. Hang back by the ranged DPS and/or casters, see how things are going, jump in if the moment is right, or hang back and defend your squishy cloth wearing friends in case an enemy comes rushing.

The time will come when you are killed in such a horrific manner it will actually cause a tremor in the Force.
...This comment amused me...
Oh, and I don't know what "tea-nied" is...:duck:
Anyway, similar to what Heerobya said, but I think that quite possibly the most important thing is having as complete of a sense of "situational awareness" as possible, is immensely helpful. While this is almost universally easier for ranged players to accomplish(due to literally being able to "see" more of what's going on), it is still something the melee players are capable of.
Knowing who, and what, is around you, where people are, and what they are doing(within reason), allows one to act accordingly. While being active has it's benefits, being able to react to things on the fly, and well, is of great benefit to a player.
If you mess up, or if you simply encounter an impossible situation, then simply get back up(when the timer goes down or if you get ressed...) and try again.
This is all great advice, thanks for sharing it guys.
Tea-nied is a word I stole from one our other writers who did a thing on PvP terms awhile back. You know that crude emote some people like to do on corpses? This is hitting respawn as quick as possible to keep them from doing it. Hence they are tea-nied.
My suggestion is group up. This is going to be a social game focused on trying to force you to be social. Playing the odds when you get into a PvP fight there are going to be 6 people attacking you (game group size). To have any chance at all you need to have similar numbers. If you expect to be successful solo you are not going to have as much fun.
I think this will even be a rude awakening to the long time Rogue/shadowblade/ranger classes that were used to just hanging out invisible pouncing on the easy prey and hiding in a corner when the roving PvP gank squads came through.
Back on point though – You will have infinitely more fun getting grouped up and learning how to work as a team. Which if you are already an accomplished PvEer you already know most of the skills you just need to apply them to a more chaotic environment. There are also some perks to PvP over PvE, group makeup is not as important. You can go out and have fun as 6 dps classes, 3 tanks 3 healers.
One thing that I think is going to WOW the WoW players (look I made a funny… ok not that funny) is the sense of community that I predict will be an important part of the community in Hammer. We are all in this war together so when there is a strong offensive in the Greenskin battlefront I expect you will see the Power guilds right along side pickup groups working to repel those bothersome stunties. It is the 1 thing I really miss from my days in old school DAoC.
So when your out in the thick of things watch who is successful and who is just rez-zerging. Follow the guys that seem to live forever and try and help them out and/or ask them for tips if they are like me I am always willing to help improve the talent pool.
Another nod to keybindings here. Taking your eyes from the screen is not a good idea, but as the combat in WAR isn't as fast paced as in WoW (there's be no 2 shotting of equal level players), I'd say this ia secondary to being aware of your surroundings and knowing the lay of the land.
I have to disagree here.
I have always been a click guy, and honestly i have never ever had an issue with pvp.
I don't use macros, i don't use mods, and i use pretty much only the mouse, and without bragging, I can say, i'm pretty damn good.
Would I be better if i bound my keys? *shrug* maybe, but thats not how i play. Its not so much how fast you click, its knowing when to click, and where to move.
So many people in pvp see target, chase target. Never giving a thought to their surroundings, never thinking tactically. They treat every pvp match like its some halo deathmatch game.
It's about knowing when to fight, picking that fight and taking that fight to your enemy in an intelligent way.
