It's been many years since the launch of the first MMOG. Even as far back as Ultima Online, game launches have always meant that there will be a substantial amount of downtime as they tweak the game and make it playable. Yet for all this time that has passed, gamers are all over the boards during an extended downtime or a server crash at launch. With the launch of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning around the corner, we take a look at a few simple things not to do at launch. Want to make sure that you're not "that" guy? Then you'll want to read The Rules of Launch-gagement.
With Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning looming on the horizon, many gamers are chomping at the bit to play this game.
You did this on purpose didn't you, Brokain?
Anyway, as to point #3 on your list, at first I thought 'nah, no one's stupid enough to do this, surely?' But then I though I've played quite a few MMOs of varying qaulity over the years, but other than Vanguard I've never played a game at launch, and I reckon that many of the people who pick up WAR at lanch would be like me and have known nothing but good times in MMOs but without the knowledge I've picked up from these forums.
I know I won't be taking annual leave at launch. Sick leave, however, is fair game

Funny thing that all the whining started round the time WoW became popular with the high school crowd.
Thats not true, I remember clearly the UO boards...there you had a whine fest without description, later on said boards where hosted and provided from a contractor becuase of that (as far as the rumor mill goes).
Just my point is, the whine-culture did not start with WoW...WoW was a worthy succesor among many other game centric boards.
Even EA got sued because of displeased gamers who took several "broken promises blahblah" to court (EA did and does provide UO)
From the years I played and game releases I encountered, I can extract following conclusion "nothing new under the sun" whine wise.
Even the sentences are the same, I am pretty sure you can copy and paste sentences from old UO, Horizons, vanguard and whatnot boards to any game of today...it would fit perfectly and no one would notice (if the gamename and company gets replaced)
You left out the "OMG <Shadow Warrior/White Lion/Hammerer/Engineer/Squig Herder/DoK/Black Guard/Black Orc/Magus/Zealot/Ironbreaker/Witch Hunter/Shaman/Bright Wizard/Rune Priest/Warrior Priest/Achmage/Choppa/Chosen/Swordmaster/Marauder/Knight of the Blazzing Sun/Sorceress/Witch Elf> IS <Overpowered/Gimped>! FIX IT NOW BY <Nerfing them/Nerfing a different class/Nerfing all the other classes/buffing them>!
I am seriously considering calling in late on launch day, just to go and pick up my copy (and the wife's too I guess), start the installation/patch process and then heading into work.

No need to do that most likely.
When was the last time that the open beta client didn't patch directly up to the release client?
However! Taking a week off of work "because" your mum (who you haven't seen in 3 years) is in town? PERFECTLY ok!
