World of Warcraft: Legacy Items Unveiled in Exclusive Interview
Last week, the internet was awash with new information on Blizzard’s upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft, titled Wrath of the Lich King. Although lots of general information was divulged to top media outlets, including Ten Ton Hammer, there really wasn’t too much in-depth information presented to the gathered press. Thankfully, Ten Ton Hammer’s Cody “Micajah” Bye was on the scene – along with MMOG aficionado sites Curse.com and MMO Gamer – and this trio presented Wrath of the Lich King’s co-lead designers, Jeffrey Kaplan and Tom Chilton, with a whole variety of interesting questions that led to a number of interesting discoveries, including the first mention of Legacy Items!

My next question has to do with customization - character customization - not at the creating a character level, but like with socketing and gem socketing, I think you guys really created something that was very interesting for players, that allowed them more customization for their character after the initial creation process. Are you looking to introduce some more types of those elements in Wrath of the Lich King? I don't know if you're just gonna introduce more gems, or more socketed items, or something completely different... are you planning to do anything like that?
Tom Chilton: Legacy Items; we haven't really talked about those in the past. We are planning to do certain types of items that essentially bind to your account, so they're deliberately created as twink items.
Wow, legacy items...the mind boggles with possibilities. And two new tiers for talents...what will I spend the points on, how will my gear need to change, will the added points make me look fat?
And to answer your question, I think legacy items are an excellent idea - twinks will continue to fight twinks while the rest of us level by them in the new super-speedy leveling design. I don't really get the whole 19/29/39/49 fun that others seem to get. I want to get to 60 and beyond.
Again, my only concern is that there seems to be a lot of content "not figured out yet" which leads me to believe Lich King is way way way far away.
Did you get that sense from looking at it first hand?
I really like the idea of the Legacy items. I enjoy playing my alts solo and haven't really done much to twink them out, but I wouldn't mind being able to get some uber weapon for a melee class and slicing through mobs quickly. With the already increased lvling time from less xp needed and increased quest xp, getting a lowbie up to 70 would be a lot quicker.
As far as the comment about a lot of content not being figured out yet, it seems to me like the only major thing that isn't done is the raid bosses. At least that's the main one I remember reading about in all the news that came out.

No, I didn't and you may be getting "not figured out yet" confused with "not finalized" and there is a difference. I'm pretty sure Blizz has figured out what the content is going to be but it needs tweaking before reaching the final stage. Going into Alpha is the start of the finalizing stage, then closed beta (if they have it) and finally open beta.
I know "legacy" items were something that has been bandied about these forums before. How it would be great to get an item then be able to pass them down to your alts. In that respect, I'm for it.
However, the idea of them being "twink" items has me concerned. The last thing we need is more twinks. Or if they do do this for twinks, it would be nice to have seperate BGs for twinks. Like the normal BG's could be 10-18 and have another tier at 19, then start again at 20-28, etc.
But that would probably make 18 the new twink wouldn't it....
It would just be nice if the twinks had their own BG. One reason I don't do BG's is that I hate getting smacked around by toons my level but way overgeared.
"Resilience is here to stay, we like the statistic."
That statement is making me depressed. I was hoping someone would realize that Resilience ruins things for those who are dependent on crits like the Assassination Rogue. Once you reach level 70 PVP, a Assassin Rogue has to respec cause his spec is worthless. Now, in the interest of full-disclosure, I've never been affected by resilience, but I feel for players who would like to play a Crit heavy class in PVP but that has been taken away from them. Any class in any spec should be able to PVP effectively.

It takes a big man to admit when he is wrong, and I am not a big man...
Seriously though, I've listened to a number of interviews with Jeff Kaplan and the other dude (I'll call him Steve), and they both sound like they are "figuring out" how to "finalize" a lot of stuff. Not just which color the socks should be underneath the new spats you can get with exhalted rep with Tuskar either, like important things and if I knew what they were I would list them here.
Ah crap, you are probably right, I just have to keep my expectations in check because when I see all this new stuff I want it NOW.
I've still got stuff I want to do yet so I'm in no rush for it's release but I can understand where some folks are. It has been in the works for some time.
