Can a "Kiddie" Game be for Real?

In this week's Top Ten Free-to-Play games, Mabinogi continues to climb while Pirates of the Caribbean Online dives some more. Meanwhile, Fiesta debuts strong, but is it just a game for teenagers?

While it would be easy to dismiss Fiesta as a game aimed at ten year olds, it most certainly has something to offer adults.

Fietsa makes a big debut. Maybe many of our new forum members think DOMO should be on this list?

Its great to see such a big list of free-to-play games for - nearly - any taste.

I can only speak about Mythos, since its the only game I play of those (the others dont seem to fit into my taste anyway).

I must admit, I have more fun with Mythos compared to some, well known, upcoming pay-to-play games.

I have the strong impression that free-to-play games will grow way stronger and become the major part in Online Gaming.

Lets see where we are in two years at max

I could list quite a few games that are pay-to-play that are not as good as Mythos. I won't do it here, but I could.

Yeah, DOMO is certainly a good game, I would say it's better then some on that list.

Tried eXteel yet? I've heard it's an interesting game.

I might give DOMO a try at some point with all the excitement it seems to be bringing with our giveaway. I looked at eXteel and something turned me off. I forget what.

Well, I haven't played 10 free games, so it's tough to give an objective list. That being said, here's what I have played:

1. Dungeon Runners - while it's not perfect, it's at the top of my list for sheer "fun", based in large part on it's snarky sense of humor. Dungeon Runners and Mythos will go head-to-head in their genre (f2p online hack-n-slash) in 2008. Has the most community-involved/aware developers of any game I've ever played. They interact and play with the users regularly.
2. Mythos - a pretty solid entry, but it's undergoing another redesign, so it's up in the air for the moment. The zone 3 patch sucked, IMO, and lessened the overall experience. While it's still in closed beta, Mythos is already more "complete" feeling than Dungeon Runners. "More complete" doesn't translate to "more fun", though... I do find myself in that "just one more quest" mode, but not necessarily in a good way.
3. Exteel - almost didn't play it beyond the sucky tutorial - Once I got past the tutorial, however, it ended up being lots of fun (in very small doses).
4. 9Dragons - fun in concept, but grindy, grindy, grindy - no thank you
5. Rappelz - see 9Dragons...
6. Pirates of the Carribean Online - Hate it - Great idea, poor execution. Worse than expected system performance for a "kid's game", no custom installation options, free players have to freakin' log in and wait in queue just to download patches (wtf?)
7. Freestyle Street Basketball - not really a MMO, IMO. Can be fun, but can also be really, really irritating, especially if you're literate...

Personally I'd put DOMO above fiesta, i found fiesta got boring rather quickley, I'm going to download a few of these tho and have a go, any personal opinions on mabinogi?

Yeah, I've played maybe 20. Great post, and thanks for sharing. Be sure that Dungeon Runners is on my list of games to try soon.
