Creating an original world in the MMOG industry is almost a lost art, as many teams in the modern era of MMOGs take up solid intellectual properties in order to make their popular games. The developers at Fallen Earth see things differently, however, as they embark on not only creating their own IP, but also developing a game that breaks the norms of the industry. Cody "Micajah" Bye talks with Fallen Earth's lead designer, Lee Hammock, about a player's first few moments in the game in this first part in a two part series on Fallen Earth!

"At character creation we don't assume that the player has done any sort of research on how to play the game," Lee said. "That's what I do. I don't want to watch a cutscene that explains the backstory or wade through a manual that explains all the mechanics of the game. Character creation is completely cosmetic, all your stats are the same as any other beginning characters. Even your appearance can be changed after you enter the world at the appropriate place (a barbershop, etc.)."
