**EXCLUSIVE** Ambulation in EVE Online Video

Character Artist Ben Mathis offered his thoughts on the EVE Online phenomenon before launching into the most detailed look at the Ambulation project we've seen yet, and it all happened at New York Comic-Con 2008. Ambulation will allow EVE players to step out of their ships and into the thousands of stations dotting the EVE Online universe, and though we have a long wait before we'll see the fruit of CCP's efforts, Ben brings the project to life with dozens of never-before-seen renders and several new videos.

Oh I love the love-hate relationship everyone has with ambulation. What's everyone's take on it? Useful or useless?

Even with the concept of it just being a purely social layer being added to the gameplay, I think it has the potential to expand the game in a much bigger way than something like adding new star systems could. I haven't really been reading up on the reactions of current players, but I'm sure there's at least a certain segment of the hardcore PvP crowd that are hating the idea of a new generation of players with a more social focus entering the game, but I still think it's a great direction to take things in.

Anyway, nice video clip! I love seeing how much detail / depth they're putting into things.

As Sardu mentions, this update to EVE has the greatest potential to bring a whole new level of game play. This is especially true for new players who are often discoraged by the fact that you are only and always a ship in EVE currently.

The potential with every expansion is not so much what its direct influence on game play will be, but what will the 2nd and 3rd order consequences be post launch. This is not EvE but an MMO wide issue. If giving players an option to do new things out of their ships will keep players in game then this IMHO is a positive step. It will no doubt have its own risks and rewards and ultimately if you ask any clan/corp or guild leader subtle changes which keep players in game are always welcome irrespective of any short term "distractions" that come along the way.
