With Age of Conan Hyborian Adventures a little over two weeks froma launch, Age of Conan Community Managers Martuk, Machail, and JoBildo sat down for a hands on preview and review of their time in beta. The three discussed how the game stacks up gainst the hype and how it has evolcved over time.
Quote:
Machail: I gotta admit, back in January, I wasn't too sure how things were going to turn out. I realized it was still beta, but launch was only a few months away. The game was fun, but the graphics and mechanics weren't what they were publicizing. I changed my tune drastically though, once the beta servers got updated to a closer version of what they've been running in house. I was literally stunned when I logged in at that point. The graphics were amazing. The animations were fluid. It was breathtaking.
I can't wait for the 17th simply because it'll finally be for "rizzle"! It's been a long time coming... but I think most everyone will be pleased with the release provided the servers can withstand the strain.
I'm thinking (finally almost decided) Herald of Xotli. I'm absolutely loving the in your face nature of this mage class.
Awesome read guys, some good thoughts from the guys that have seen how the game works! I have to admit though, I am worried as well about the siege PvP...I'm sure they've been testing it plenty inhouse by launch, but without massive testing...the risk of borking it (as you so elegantly put it) is there...Let's just hope they get it right, as it's one of THE major selling points of this game.
That was a great read! I can't wait for the 17th when I get to see for myself exactly how awesome this game can look.
I can say this. From an objective look, the game has improved a LOT in my time in beta and all for the better. I got in long before these other two so I got to see some of the growing pains, but it has been a great improvement. I said it before and I will say it again. A lot can change with a patch and Funcom has proven me correct a lot of the time.

That's a definite truth, Tuk. Even in my short time since starting with the technical beta and moving into the general closed beta I've seen some huge improvements go live, and with each one I'm more confident in these guys.
It could be a rocky launch, but this is still the most entertaining MMOG I've played in years.
I'd have to say without a doubt even if the launch is rocky, I'll stick with AoC for quite some time. I think the potential for this game is out of this world. I also am pretty confident that Funcom will address any problems that arise promptly and efficiently.
The game isn't even out yet and I can't wait to see what future updates hold. I'm a patch fanatic though, which is why the MMO genre has always been my favorite.
From a bit more cynical viewpoint, if it does end up being a rocky launch, it's going to be rough. Particularly since WAR is on the horizon too. With new games coming out all the time lately, folks tend to be less forgiving with launches and move on quickly if something doesn't suit their fancy right off the bat.
That being said though, I think AoC has enough punch in it to keep enough subs going for some time that we're likely to see plenty of updates.
