Champions Online Is Going To Be One of the Biggest Games Of 2009
There, I said, laid it out there on the line! No taking it back, just remember I said it first in my article about the newly announced Champions Online! Find out why I place my name on the line with this prediction with Coming of Champions!
When I first emailed my boss about this, he was the first to give me that look like "huh?".
Sad kids these days, not knowing about their history, like how the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, or about Champions RPG.
I am quite serious about my assertion, though.
It is true that the cel shading is a different look, but it's a great look. If Cryptic can successfully translate the versatility and feel of Champions over to Champions Online, it's gonna be #@# huge.

I heard about this some time back but I didn't realize how far along they were in development until Cody mentioned it in another thread. This one is going to bear watching.
For this prediction to come to fruition Cryptic would need:
a) enough time to make a competitive game
b) enough money to make a competitive game.
They have neither.
That is all.
Grabthaar,
I respect your opinion differs. However, what do you base your assertion on?
Cryptic had the successful City of Heroes, City of Villians, plus there is Dungeon Runners.
Now, I can't speak for the second two titles with as much authority (I played both of those, but not as much as COH), but I can say that I know COH was very busy. In fact, I can say that COH was the only MMOG that I never had to wait to find team members for those hard to assemble quests, such as the reactor in ... steel canyon? I forget, been a while.
You feel differently, what makes you think they don't have time nor money to make a new game?

They've been working on the game and the engine for a while. Remeber they're using an upgraded version of their own custom engine that they built. This game was originally titled Marvel Universe Online. But after an amicable separation, Cryptic bought the Champions IP. I'm fairly sure that cost a pretty penny in it's own right. Now, add to that some of the money Marvel and Microsoft invested when the game was still Marvel Universe and then add to that the money the got for the sale of their 50% share of the City of Heroes/City of Villains IP and the engine licensing agreement to NCSoft. Seems like they have enough money and they still have a year to enter beta and then release and based on the work already completed, seems like they have enough time too.

I'm fairly positive Dungeon Runners was an in-house project for NCSoft. And the reactor trials (Respecs) were in Independence Port, Founders Falls and Peregrine Island [Source: Paragon Wiki]
