The World of Warcraft (WoW) can be a very confusing place. As with any large game, and especially any Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) there are a veritable ton of acronyms and terminology that is used by its players. This can be very daunting to the new player, and can even be confusing to many veterans that simply can not remember all the terms.
This first section of the guide covers all the acronyms and terms that start with a number or the letter A. Check back soon for further updates.

ALT - Generally refers to any character that you have that is not the one you play the most often. Usually refers to any character that is not your highest level character, although many players stop playing a high level character and start a new main character and then do not refer to it as an alt.
If you've got a new friend who is playing WoW I suggest that you send them this link so they won't feel so lost once the lingo gets thrown around.

PUG - Short for Pick Up Group and refers to any group that is created from random players found in the area, general chat or the LFG tool or channel. This is the default type of group for most quests and 5 man instances. However they have a very bad reputation as many times you can get players that are either sub-geared or sub-skilled, which causes issues in completing the quest or instance.
