Age of Conan Class Interview #6: The Ranger

As the holidays have come and gone, it's time to continue the regularly scheduled Age of Conan class previews. Fresh off our trip to Oslo and the Funcom studios, the Ten Ton Hammer staffers were full of questions regarding the Ranger class. In the subsequent class interview, you will find answers to questions regarding mounted combat, climbing, tracking and much, much more! Read on for more Age of Conan and Ranger info!

Evan: Yes, we still have a first-person targeting mode although it is not the only method of participating in ranged combat. Given the hectic nature of many of the fights, we felt that not having a “lock-on” mode would lead to a frustrating experience for the players in some situations and thus we have included that as an option in addition to first-person mode. Both modes of targeting lead to a very different gameplay experience but we will leave it to the player to decide which they prefer.

I dont think they will be over powered. Different classes are good at different situations and places. Just as it should be. All things cannot be balanced all the time, but should be most of the time.

Well, I'm 99.9% set on playing a Ranger now. Good information there.

I don't think they (Rangers) would be overpowered in PvP. What I'm curious about is the damaged inflicted while on horseback. I remember reading something about lances, and that depending on how fast your horse goes it correlates to the amount of damage dealt. Does this increase apply only to lances, or to all melee weapons? If so, can Rangers use lances and/or does the amount of damage a Ranger does on horseback with a melee weapon close to what the other melee classes deal?

Great interview !! Made me doubtful about which class to go with, because the ranger sounds like it has a lot of potential if in a good group
