Have you ever wondered how MMOG developers create their monsters? How they come up with all their kooky characters? The developers at Dungeon Runners have taken time out of their busy schedule to answer these questions and give us a look into this very process. Ten Ton Hammer has your inside look at how monsters are created, and when you finish the article, make sure you download the free Dungeon Runners client!

Being one of those legacy projects that's inherited more than its share of resources (code, system architecture, networking, music and artwork) over the years, Dungeon Runners has had a lot of art to draw from for its vast selection of nasty, oddball and frankly freakishly hideous monsters. Of course, after awhile we’ve nearly run out of all the stuff we can easily use or steal. More and more we’ve internally developed new creatures, sticking with the concepts and themes we’re familiar with. As our team grows, you’ll be seeing many more strange and horrific creatures to deal with, as well as some surprising ones we’re still keeping under our hat.
This is fairly interesting to read about, but those mobs are U G L Y, ugly! I'm really looking foward to testing the new patch (yeah, I'm a geek lke that) when it hits the PTS. I'm even more interested in the new game engine they've licensed...

Well I've been thinking of a monster that i want in the game. I would draw a quick reference sketch of it but... I'm not a very good artist. Its name is a Ghoulash. It appears ghostly blue in color. Its face has one eyeball that looks like this: It is a weird pointy oval shape eye and it is red with pink veins. Also it has no feet, but one huge curvy tentacle with thorns on it. Instead of arms it has four thorny tentacles on both the right and left sides of its body. Well thats all I have, I hope you put it in the game. Thanks!

Hehehe - awesome. I'll make sure to tell Mark Tucker about this one.
I have been drawing and painting since I could lift a pencil, and playing games since I discovered dice. I am currently studying online classes to obtain a degree in Game Art & Design. I see that you use an outside-contracted concept artist to sketch your monster ideas, and wondered how one would go about getting involved in that gig--I have a few ideas of my own for monsters as well.
Im back again! Molten Magmite is my latest idea. It is eight feet tall and is made of magma. Its weapons include two long fire scimatars. Its head is rounded like a hill, and it has glowing red eyes. But that is just the regular creature. The hero version of this is slightly taller. It carries a long Magmaxe (Magma Axe) and breathes fire. Special moves include Rain of the Lavalord which is a lava rain.
I think this game needs a dragon. I know there's Balzack or whatever, but it needs a more dragony type dragon.
I have about 3 zillion Ideas for dragons, but why dont I make something on Spore (game) and post it here, that game is great 4 making rough ideas into 3d creatures fast.
