We have updated our fishing guide so that it includes where to get Expert, Artisan training, as well as some information on the Stranglethorn Extravaganza! Stay tuned for more updates including fish locations!
Normally, I think the TTH guides are pretty good, but with the changes that have come to fishing, I think this guide needs a complete rewrite.
It says:
"You’ll gain skill points depending on the level of the body of water you’re fishing in vs. your current skill. "
But in the next section says:
"Remember, fishing levels can be obtained anywhere, you could even level your entire fishing 1-375 right within Orgrimmar or Stormwind!"
The second statement is the correct one.
To calculate the number of catches per level:
(Current Fishing Skill - 75) / 25 = Number of catches for a skill gain (+/- up to 5)
There's also mention that bait "helps a lot", which it can, and is required for most Outland areas, but since you can skill anywhere, unless you have a specific reason to fish somewhere above your skill (like for a quest), it's isn't needed.
The aquadynamic lure (+100 fishing) mentioned can be made by engineers, so save those nightcrawlers, bronze bars, and coarse blasting powder.
In the Fishing Extravaganza section is says that each tastyfish can be sold for 1G each. Each fish is actually worth 23s (I think, if not, very close) so each stack of 5 turned in nets a little over 1G.
I just wanted to make a special note about the fishing areas that can only be reached with a flying mount and the Highland Mixed Schools. The lake at Skettis, the one just above Allerian Stronghold, and the one just above the Horde place in TF(something Stronghold) can only be reached by flying mount or druid flight form. There are special fishing nodes that spawn in these three spots. These are the only nodes from which to catch furious crawdads and Mr. Pinchy. The max fishing skill with buffs for these to not get any "fish got away" casts has been changed to 500. I'm at 495 with 375 fishing, a +20 rod from the quest in Shatt, and +100 lures. It is definitely worth it to up your fishing to be able to catch these fish. They sell really well when cooked as do the "Golden Fishsticks", which you will be able to make in abundance. It sucked to lvl fishing, but I'm glad I did. Here's to catching Mr. Pinchy! (Wow, I really must be a nerd.)

Just a heads up, but the best thing that I have found to do if you wanna make some money if you have a skill of 325+, you can que for BG's and then head to the lake that is just NE of Shatt and catch a lot of the good fish that you can cook into good food that sells really well. When I have my BG days, this is what I do while I'm waiting for the que to pop.

Yeah, I'm making a full revamp of the fishing section, first I've been going around and collecting information on where to get certain types of fish, to add them into easy to read tables going level by level, then finally updating the main information that does seem a little bit on the light side for now.
Thanks for the feedback and I hope you like the upcoming changes
That sounds great. I used the TTH fishing/cooking leveling guide with my first character, and have just used common-sense modifications since. I.e., different starting areas, different factions, different pools for the fishing-and-cooking-to-150. I think the original guide told about fishing in Stormwind and Goldshire for Alliance and Thunder Bluff as Horde, but along the way I've gone to the trainer in Darnassus and then back to Teldrassil to fish (hard to cast a line at first in Darnassus), or skilled up to 150 in Eversong Woods in the pool by the questgiver and his students. If you do the fishing quests in Darkshore, you can't help getting to 150 as well as getting the free fishing pole and lures.
Then as Horde I'll go to Shadowprey Village for the trout and as Alliance to Booty Bay for the cod to get to 225 fishing and cooking. After that, as either, I'll go to Steamwheedle (or Feathermoon as Alliance) to get to 300 fishing and close to 300 cooking with spotted yellowtail.
Bengrazin is behind on fishing so I was leveling that last night. I got to 180 out of 225 along the coast of Alterac. I snagged a book that added a fish finder in floating debris just noth of blue bubble burg. I'll hit that again tonight to get to 225 and lvl cooking.
Then I guess zeep answered my question, its off to Steamwheedle to get 300. Then back to the fish trainer in Z_marsh.
I have added some relevant information to the fishing guide, such as lures, possible equipments and enchants, and the fishing school locator to the main guide, let me know if there's anything else I missed
