Ambulation - what's your opinion?

Torfi Olafsson, the CCP lead in charge of the ambulation project, was featured in a recent series of Ten Ton Hammer videos from EVE Online FanFest 2007.

I'm anxious to learn how the EVE community feels about ambulation. Is it a worthwhile pursuit for the developers, and will it really bring in a new kind of player? Are the proposed features enough to really pique your interest, or is this just another layer of complexity? Are the models so photorealistic they're creepy?

I think walking on stations is going to be great. A lot of the time you spend in eve is socialising, or sitting in a station docked. It would be great to have that interaction that allows you to feel as though you're in the station. It will improve the social aspects of eve, and I imagine it will make it a lot more natural to meet others who share the station or system where you commonly sit.

I am interested in it. Been in a bit of an eve funk lately and new stuff is always good. All the naysayers going on about "fix the bugs instead" need to understand that they can work on both at the same time.

Personally, and I am coming from a female perspective, I'm extremely excited about this aspect of EVE development. I love this game. It is the ONE MMOrpg presently on the market that is, in my opinion, actually innovative and fresh. I think rather than detracting from that freshness, this is going to add yet another dimension to that.

The idea of being able to actually sit down "face to face" in a meeting with my corporation to make plans and even just to socialize, definitely appeals to me. It will help to make the game more immersive.

I can't tell you how MANY many times I have been docking at a station, looking at the vastness of it, and wondering what's "going on" inside that enormous structure. Are other corporations meeting in there, plotting to declare war on ours, or planning to strip mine that entire asteroid belt that I've had my eye on for days, "stealing" all of MY (lol) isogen? It will be so interesting to be able to actually get OUT of my ship and socialize with the others who "live" in the solar systems.

Frankly, I can't think of anything negative to say about this. I'm going to have a very hard time being patient while waiting on it though.

And to my corporation....guys, I can't wait for us all to be able to sit down, have a beer, play some poker maybe, and discuss exactly how we're going to deal with that "other corporation" over there that is trying to push us out of the market. =D

Ambulation will different things to different types of gameplay.

Roleplayers will most likely be the ones to benefit the most from this expansion.

Carebears will greatly appreciate the possibilties.

PvPers will be least interested in this expansion. They got their candy with Factional Warfare.

Over all Ambulation will allow CCP to expand the horizon of EVE giving players new settings in which to explore and have fun in. But it will also be a test bed for the World of Darkness MMO which is in development (if rumours are true) in CCP Whitewolf (Atlanta GA).

And as kcgirlgeek mentions, with this expansion to their MMO CCP is truly the only innovative MMO developer.

I don't follow this game very closely and a google and official site search didn't help so I'll ask here. Did ambulation ever get implemented or did it get delayed or dropped?

It never got a date so I don't think it's quite right to say it was delayed, but it hasn't been dropped either. There was a Walking in Stations demo at EVE FanFest last November, so it's still definitely on the radar screen.
