Here's a snippet:
According to a post made on the Warhammer Online beta forums by Senior Producer Jeff Hickman, the developers will be closing down the beta servers on October 10, 2007, with plans to reopen the servers in early December 2007.
Although my thoughts are pretty obvious in the post, I'd just like to restate the fact that I think it's great that the developers have the balls to shut down their servers for two months to make sure they get the game done right. I've seen SO many MMOGs make fools of themselves for trying to turn a testing community into their personal slaves, and it isn't great for a game to put an imperfect product in front of a bunch of fans.
That said, this sort of move in the MMOG industry IS unprecedented...so I'm not quite sure what to expect to come out of it. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
As long as it makes the game better (I'm not in beta so don't have a previous opinion), then no one should have a problem with it. Well...maybe the addicted beta testers that have to go cold turkey for 2 months, but that's understandable.
I just don't want to see EA (yes I don't like EA from my UO days) screw up a game with such promise by forcing Mythic to change stuff. We've heard everything will be up to Mythic on this, but how many people have jumped boat since they became EA/Mythic?
From one point of view this looks like a good thing...from the conspiracy side of me...just gotta say what's EA sticking their butts where they don't belong to screw another MMO up.

I have seen alot of Beta testers in other games...
I am not in beta and the beta testers i have spoken to havn't said anything about the game but, they arn't playing the beta anymore...I hope this time is what the game needs to shine above the current open games and the slew of games in Beta right now..
I am disapointed as i was hoping to get into beta and see for myself being a long time Warhammer fan...
From the post in the WAR Herald, they make it sound as though this a routine thing they do during their Beta testing and personally I think it's a good idea. With as much feedback as they've gotten over the past few months, they have a lot to do do improve the game based on the player's ideas. It's this type of stuff that gives me confidence in how EA Mythic is running the show on this. It's not a popular decision, but it's a good decision to be sure and I can't wait to get a shot at getting into the Beta in December to see how good it looks then.
While I am not interested in this game due to it's pvp-based nature the fact that they apparently have learned from the disaster that Vanguard started with is promising. They are the supposed inheritors to the WoW throne and it is nice to see them taking their time and doing it right...rather then aggravate people who are let down at the game not being nearly what they wanted it to be.
