Was Ethec wrong? Well obviously either yesterdays article was in error or todays retraction is, but which one? From CME's site:
Quote:
Company :: Board of Directors
Gary Whiting - Chairman of the Board
Gary Whiting is the founder of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, Inc. In 2005, Mr. Whiting recognized the potential for an MMORPG that could be tapped by forming a strategic relationship with MGM and licensing the Stargate franchise. He arranged for the initial funding to establish the company and to recruit key industry talent to manage the operations of the business.
Mr. Whiting also serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of ItzYourMall, a loyalty-rewards discount card company with operations throughout the United States. Mr. Whiting founded this company in response to a need for a better product not only for himself but others in his field as well.

I'm not sure which whois service Ethec used to show that the MMOGULs site was registered to the same building as CME's site, perhaps it didn't list the name of the registrant or the administrative contact. Domain tools for MMOGULS show:

I'm not a SGW hater, this is my first post here but I've been looking into MMOGULS since early December and in a recent search I found this discussion. I can tell you this much for sure, the Gary Whiting of CME is the same Gary Whiting who registered the MMOGULS and MYMMOGULS domains. He was promoting this as an MLM opportunity.That is where this gets hazy.
I found out about MMOGULS because one of the "ground floor" promoters of the deal is a bush league scam artist who's pissed me off enough to keep track of. In late November/ early December he started flogging MMOGULS to his little flock of followers. But last week he removed the advertisement from his website and I noticed his affiliate sales page on the MyMoguls site was dead. On his most recent weekly confrence call he had some very unflattering things to say about Mr. Whiting and spoke of a pending lawsuit. He still promotes the opportunity but warns people against "signing up" under the wrong people.
I still don't know what to make of all this. Obviously selling a MMO game through MLM is flat out stupid, but in my experience enough of the people who fall for MLM scams are too. Some of the sales copy for MMOGULS is divorced enough from reality that I do wonder how "real" it is. One thing is certain, there was big trouble in that organization even before this story broke and the fans got upset. While I don't take the announcement on the SGW forum as "definitive" the fan reaction coupled with a revolt in the "downlines" might be enough to make Gary scrap the MLM idea in a big darn hurry. If he can afford to.
