View Full Version : New box set, no expansion?

So I waited patiently all week for my shiney new box set to show up so I could jump in to EVE this weekend. It arrives Friday and tear it open and load it up. Once it's done loading I go to log in and it says "new version available.. download now. 1.3Gigs!

So the new box set doesn't come with Apocrypha? And on top of that I get an error when I try to start downloading.. Now I know it's probably not a big deal to others but I have an extremely slow internet connection and the reason I waited for the expansion to try EVE was so I wouldn't have a giant download that I'd never complete. 1.3gigs would take me FOREVER to download. As in weeks!

Is it not odd that the expansion would not be included in the new "special edition" box set that was released for the expansion?

Am I missing something here? I'm not the sharpest steak knife in the drawer but it seems odd to me..

I ran into this same issue when I got the boxed set. So, I eventually downloaded it from Steam, the problem now is they haven't put up the most recent patch so I haven't been able to play for almost a week. A question I have is, if I were a premium member here a TenTon could I download the latest patches for EVE without worry about these horrid Checksum errors?

Not that I know of Crookie.. Would be nice, but I don't think so.

I read that the hardcopy was sent out before the final build on the expansion was completed...that final build seemingly being the expansion. O.o

Definitely stinks. Patches have gotten bigger and bigger the past couple of years!

The patches you get ARE the expansion/upgrades, etc. which is why they are so large...

Yes, it is annoying....and you just have to pray the download doesn`t get corrupted

How slow is your slow connection?

Btw, usual place to patch from is the main Eve webpage once you have the game

I wouldn't expect Steam to update EVE, much like it doesn't really update Star Trek.

Open the client, it should eventually pop up and go "New version" tell it to let er rip and go make a coffee. Personally I've never had a patch throw a checksum error on me; perhaps your ISP or Router is up the creak.

The boxset is Apocath<whatever> not Dominion. On the other hand it is never than people who've the original Second Genesis release (which apparently does patch).
