I've seen it listed that the intended launch server types would be PvE, RP PvP and PvP. Has anything been said about RP PvE servers? If not, could someone from the TTH team maybe fly that question by the devs? A few friends and I are putting together a guild for AoC (as we did in SWG) and we wondering this. We'd really like the atmosphere and attention to keeping the game world as true to the setting as possible, yet not all of our group like/want PvP.

Funcom have stated they have the system available for that, and FFAPvP and other server types, but as to wether or not they implement them at launch is another matter.

I hope so. The information I read listed the distinct difference between RP PvP and regular PvP servers, but did not do such for PvE. :)

Though we haven't linked it, it is pretty much as we have stated. PvE, RP PvE, PvP and RP PvP. That is still all subject to change, though.

Sorry, what is FFAPvP?
LOL, Good morning Vietnam ruined me whenever I hear acronyms.
Excuse me sir, if this VP is such a VIP shouldn't we keep the PC on the QT, becasue if it leaks to the VC he could end up MIA and then we'd all be put on KP.

Ahh, okay, that's what I thought. So that server wouldn't have battlekeeps, huh?
Woodster

Yes it would. All servers will have battlekeeps in the Border Kingdoms. It's a big part of the game and gives benefits to the guilds holding them.

That doesn't make a lot of sense though. If the server is free from all PvP, it would be the guild that got to the battle keeps first that would never lose them.
Unless they were dumb enough to allow NPCs to over throw them.

It's not Free From All pvp. It's Free For All pvp :)
But if you think about a pure pve server (No world pvp) I still am pretty sure that you will have Battlekeeps up for grabs in the Border Kingdoms. It's a part of the game it self. But this beeing an instanced area (presumably) you will actively have to actively travel to this area to do pvp.
It's like drunken brawling or the "capture the flag" minigames. You will have to actively seek it up. If you travel in the woods on a ffa pvp server anybody can, and many will, try to kill you. This is where blood money or other benefits of killing other players get into matter.
For more about this, read this faq from the aoc community pages. It is very out dated (Sept. 2006), but I believe they at least point out something in the things we are discussing here that still is valid. I'm wondering, will the 'PvP' Servers be free for all?
I mean, surely in a PvP server everyone is attackable in most of the zones, effectively making it free for all anyway.
Any differences between FFA-PvP and PvP?

Last I read the PvP and Rp PvP servers are FFA. Only in/near the Hubs is there no PvP.

I'm praying for a RP-PvE server, I really dont like the sound of this free for all PvP - but then I hate world PvP anyway and FFA is just too extreme for me.

I find FFA a bit much for my tastes too, but I'm *really* looking forward to the sieges and bar brawls. Heck, even the CTF games sound fun.

If they will have FFA servers, that might be pretty cool actually. It's the first MMORPG I'll be playing with a guild from the start so it should be safer than going on my own

As an x DAOC player I am hooked on FACTION/REALM pvp. I love the idea of "nations" fighting "nations". It gives a reason and focus to 24/7 fighting. I'm not optomistic that this ruleset will ever see the light of day in AOC...but I can hope(and advocate).
From a FUNCOM business sense it is a powerful idea.Look at the run DAOC has had, and WAR has almost 550,000 applied to beta test. Guild Wars 2 is going in that direction as well.

I think this will have it, but it will be min-RvR. If there are 9 Battlekeeps, I can see guilds forming alliances and aiding their alliance guilds in taking and holding battlekeeps. I can see smaller guilds sending in mercenary detachments, paid top dollar, to help bolster a keeps defenses during the time frames the keep is open to battle. I can see those smaller groups fighting valiantly, or even turning treacherous and betraying the keeps defenders by either standing aside or turning and attacking the defenders, as the attackers have offered more gold.

Athelan- Wed Jan 16 2008 12:52AM
Funcom plans on having PvE, RPPvP, and PvP servers at launch at least, possibly also RP PvE but that combination has been much less popular. This will be the same as the other servers but have an additional RP policy.
I will probably do a Beta update of my own playing and I will make a female character possibly just to show something different.
We had an ongoing advancement system after level 80 but we have pushed it off as a post launch feature.
***the above was posted to Athelan's Dev Blog at MMORPG.com***
WHAT! I'm sorry, but this to me smells of the elusive "focus group" SOE talked of as one of the reasons to implement the NGE in SWG. Exactly where is Athelan and Funcom getting this "less popular" idea? From the very vocal minority on the AoC official forums?!?!
This just isn't right, man. No, it's flat out wrong. Just because the majority of the people who would play on a RP PvE server are F5ing the AoC forums and OMGing every little rumor that is posted to said boards does not mean they don't exist. And even those that try to post a thoughtful request on those forums have their posts immediately derailed by "Can you really have RP in PvE". WTF! (sorry mods) There has been RP on PvE servers since MMO gaming began. Just because a gamer doesn't believe in the FFA concept does not mean they can't believe in RPing in the AoC setting. They deserve to have the same rules with regard to setting that RP PvP server players get.
If more people could see past the end of their own nose you wouldn't have people railing against an RP PvE server addition, especially when you can see that it isn't going to hurt those that want RP PvP servers. The RP PvP server will still be there for those who want them. The reason it may seem "less popular" is most likely because those who want it have been told no by countless companies in the past. Those companies said no to both RP PvE and RP PvP servers.
Mach, Cody, I know it's against forum ettiquete, and I'm prepared to take the lashings. But you guys have a voice, one that isn't lost in the sea of hate on the AoC forums. Please let these guys (Funcom) know that the RP PvE server is, indeed, less popular with the PvP vocalists on the AoC forums, but that there are many, many PVE players that would enjoy the RP ruleset but that see no point in arguing with forum goers who somehow think having an extra server choice would negatively impact RP PvP servers.
I'm not asking either of you to champion this request, especially if you could care less about RP PvE servers. I'm just asking that, as they update you about the facts about this game, you update them about the facts of their gaming community: RP PvEers are indeed here.
Thanks.

That's one of the reasons I'm here. As much as possible, we like to communicate with the devs what our readers are thinking and feeling. And I'll always reply the same way: "no promises that it's going to change anything, but we'll do our best to see if the issue can get some attention."
I have an idea though to see if we can't get all of these concerns and questions a bit more organized over the next little while. Obviously, we can't just start shooting emails and whatnot every time a concern or question comes up, so if we can get, oh, say, a new forum specifically for these types of questions, we'll see if we can't get them some attention in batches.
Keep an eye out over the next little while for more news on this.

Thanks Mach. That's all I'm really asking for. I'm grounded enough to know that there are no guarantees, I was just looking around and it didn't seem like those that were asking for such on the official forums weren't being "heard". I sincerely appreciate anything and everything that you guys do to bring this to Funcom's attention.

Many of praying FFA server has some form of looting, if so, you will see many former UO and SB guilds come over and make it a very exciting pvp server.
